Job summary

Canam Steel Corporation is seeking a Production Supervisor to lead a 2nd shift team at our Washington, MO plant. The role focuses on safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people objectives through LEAN methods and strong supervision.

You will manage daily operations, coach staff, and drive continuous improvement while maintaining open communication with leadership and HR. Occasional weekend work is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, management, engineering or related field preferred.
  • 5 years of management experience preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in industrial manufacturing preferred.
  • Welding experience strongly preferred.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and other manufacturing software applications.
  • Working knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing Principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct, coach, and train associates as well as plan, monitor, and schedule work.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety by modeling best practices and maintaining high cleanliness and compliance training.
  • Provide hands-on leadership to meet daily KPI targets through planning and problem solving.
  • Establish and maintain staffing and training plans with regular coaching.
  • Maintain morale and motivate the team through clear communication and coaching; partner with HR on issues.
  • Apply LEAN initiatives under guidance of Plant Manager.
  • Oversee administrative tasks like attendance, schedules, data, and reporting.
  • Assist with monthly inventory as designated by Plant Manager.
  • Understand end-to-end production to drive improvements and SOPs.

This role is responsible for delivering the safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people objectives through the execution of effective communication, LEAN manufacturing tools, and employee engagement.

2nd Shift Schedule
Monday - Thursday 4:00 PM - 12:30 AM

Friday 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM
Occasional weekend availability is required.
Candidates must be able to work all schedules as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Ensure the safety of your team by setting the example and by maintaining high standards for cleanliness, organization, work practices, observations, and corrective actions. Take ownership to consistently coach best behaviors and partner with the safety team to maintain up to date compliance training and adherence to our safety policies.
  • Provide hands‑on leadership to your team in meeting daily KPI’s through effective planning, problem solving, prioritization, and execution.
  • Establish and maintain a cross‑functional staffing and training plan for your team, provide regular feedback and coaching to your direct reports.
  • Develop and maintain employee morale and motivation on your team through timely communication, team cohesiveness, and effective employee relations and coaching. Partner with leadership and HR to resolve employee relations issues.
    Implement LEAN manufacturing initiatives under the guidance of the Plant Manager in line with our overall plant improvement strategy.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical aptitude of tools, machinery, and basic engineering
  • Perform administrative activities necessary for the effective management of your team, including administrating time and attendance, managing personnel and production schedules, compiling production data, analyzing trends, and completing reports.
  • Responsible for assisting with the monthly physical inventory as designated by the Plant Manager.
  • Develop understanding of the end-to-end production process in order to effectively manage daily operations, drive continuous improvement, develop and ensure standard operating practices, and provide overall guidance to your direct team.
  • Carry out leadership responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Maintain a positive work environment by behaving and communicating effectively with customers, co‑workers, clients, and direct reports.
  • Support continuous learning of self and others.
  • Other duties as assigned by Plant Leadership.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.

Anticipated Pay Range

$73,302 - $91,627 / year

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on the job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. In addition to base salary, this role will be eligible for participation in Canam Steel Corp (CSC)'s benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, (plus additional voluntary benefits) and 401K (with employer match).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Frequent communication with others to exchange information.
  • Frequent repetition of motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Frequent moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Occasional adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions.
  • Constantly remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Constant use of computer for prolonged periods.
  • Constantly thinking and processing information.
  • Constantly maintaining concentration and focus on tasks.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Frequent exposure to production area with airborne particles, loud noises, and extreme heat and cold. Personal protection equipment is required when entering manufacturing plant.
  • Some office and frequent exposure to computer display.

Shift
