- Supervise shop employees: plan work schedules (overtime, etc.), conduct performance and salary reviews, provide feedback and overall guidance, administer discipline, develop strategies for performance and productivity improvement, and review and maintain timesheets and time off requests.
- Understand, implement, and enforce safety procedures and guidelines, including Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Ensure personnel are trained and equipped appropriately. Report violations and administer discipline as needed.
- Implement quality practices, including customer-specific requirements. Audit operator inspections and assist in error prevention.
- Interview and evaluate prospective employees; coordinate training for new and existing staff for development and cross-training.
- Coordinate with Planning/Scheduling to set and execute daily machine schedules, utilizing manpower and equipment effectively. Troubleshoot workmanship issues and supervise shop activities to meet quality and delivery standards.
- Apply manufacturing methodologies to foster continuous improvement.
- Support preventive maintenance schedules with the Maintenance Department.
- Administer employee policies, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with work rules.
- Resolve customer issues and complaints efficiently.
- Promote employee morale, teamwork, and high retention.
- Handle additional tasks specific to specialized areas like welding, machining, shipping/receiving, etc., to maintain productivity.
- Maintain and utilize Epicor and MES systems for reporting, time entry, job tracking, and error identification.
Skills and Qualifications
- 3+ years of manufacturing or steel industry experience (preferred).
- Two or four-year college degree or equivalent experience.
- Leadership and supervisory experience (required); ISO 9001:2015 and OSHA 30 training (preferred).
- Knowledge of manufacturing methodologies like Lean or Six Sigma (preferred).
- Strong interpersonal, judgment, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in conversational English.
