HVP Production Supervisor – 1st Shift
Role Description
As Production Supervisor, you will manage a team of production employees and be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees. You will handle supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies, directing workflow to meet customer orders and supporting a collaborative environment that fosters continuous improvement through LEAN Manufacturing principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first level leadership, offering support, coaching, and direction to the manufacturing team.
- Plan material flow, analyze production work orders, assign labor, and create equipment operating schedules that meet internal and external needs.
- Establish and sustain effective relationships with all employees to foster problem solving and continuous improvement.
- Suggest changes in working conditions and equipment use to increase efficiency.
- Facilitate sharing of information across production teams, planning, maintenance, warehouse, and customer service to ensure customer deadlines are met.
- Interview, hire, and train employees; appraise performance.
- Use ERP system to ensure scheduled orders complete and inventory issues are resolved, including cycle counts.
- Ensure policies and procedures are followed consistently.
- Analyze and resolve work problems, assisting employees in exceeding metrics in safety, quality, customer service, and cost management.
- Maintain time and production records.
- Reward and discipline employees; address safety, quality, or complaint issues.
- Report production, safety or quality incidents and downtime daily.
- Write procedures and SOPs, and lead implementation and training of these procedures.
- Ensure quality and quantity of production output; manage employee training and skills assessment/development.
- Interface with maintenance, planning, quality control, accounting, and R&D departments.
- Collaborate with Associate Director of Operations and other departments on improvement or capital projects.
- Ensure plant personnel practice safe work habits and follow safety rules.
Required Skills & Experience
- High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Production Management, or related field preferred.
- Three (3) years of production experience in a production environment; food manufacturing experience strongly preferred; or related equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Practical experience with LEAN manufacturing principles.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Proficient in basic mathematics including whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages; ability to interpret bar graphs.
- Proficiency in general computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.) and ability to learn new applications as necessary.
Salary & Benefits
Salary Range: $85,000 to $115,000.
Department: Operations.
Location: 37th Street – Chicago, Illinois (Onsite).
Reporting To: Production Manager.
