Job summary

Fairborn Cement Company in Ohio is seeking a Plant Supervisor to ensure safe, efficient plant operations across safety, quality, environmental, and production areas. You will monitor process parameters, lead a team of hourly staff, and coordinate with maintenance to maximize throughput while achieving quality targets.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in heavy industry, a relevant engineering degree, and strong leadership and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field or equivalent education/experience.
  • Experience in heavy industry or manufacturing is required (3–5 years).
  • Knowledge of kiln operating systems and heavy equipment is preferred.

Job description

  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations; leads by example and requires safety awareness of all direct reports.
  • Monitors plant operations including safety, quality, environmental, and production areas.
  • Monitors process parameters to determine the need to alter or increase reliability, throughput, or reduce/increase labor.
  • Reviews operational control policies and procedures, updates to current standard and communicates with effected departments and employees.
  • Manage hourly employee's schedules, job assignment and performance.
  • Monitor all process operations to maximize production rates while meeting quality targets.
  • Ensures that Production Department tools and equipment are in good working condition and that adequate stocks of consumables are maintained.
  • Ensures completion of required documentation such as shift logs, check-off lists, equipment inspection forms, and safety meetings.
  • Ensures operation and safety inspection work orders are provided to Maintenance Department to promote equipment reliability.
  • Ensures proper material handling consistent with quality objectives and troubleshoots process systems to determine why quality targets are not met.
  • Supervises contractors and third-party services, including refractory removal and installation, mechanical or electrical maintenance as needed.
  • Assign housekeeping duties and maintain plant areas as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • This position requires knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through a bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical, electrical, industrial engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • This position requires a minimum of three to five years of production experience in heavy industry or manufacturing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge of the kiln operating system.
  • General knowledge of the inner workings of heavy industrial equipment.
  • Computer literacy skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and use the required tools.
  • Ability to speak and write English.
  • Ability to effectively lead a team.
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and chemical systems.
Qualifications
Education
Required

High School or better.

Preferred

Bachelors or better in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
