Job description

SUMMARY

With Direction from the Production Manager, the Production Supervisor supervises, directs, and coordinates the Team Leads, Production Utility, Inspector Packers, and hourly team members to achieve daily production goals and support overall company objectives. Responsible to oversee and ensure timely quality production of products in a safe, clean environment. Lead production team to meet and/or exceed all plant metrics for safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned.

PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
  • Directly supervises Team Leaders, Production Utility, Zone Leads and Inspector/Packers. Night Production Supervisors (only) will have a dotted line supervisor relationship to Quality, Maintenance and Warehouse team members.
  • Evaluates and reviews daily production schedule to assure production, delivery, and quality goals are met. Schedules and adjusts staffing and other resources to achieve daily operational goals. Work closely with Scheduling/Purchasing to monitor raw material levels.
  • Collaborates daily with operations team and business leaders to ensure daily shipments and operational project tasks are successfully met on time.
  • Responsible for non-conforming raw materials, in-process or finished goods are properly identified, segregated, and dispositioned.
  • Ensure company policies, Safety and Food Safety procedures and standards are followed by all team members. Actively coaches, trains, develops, and counsels employees for personal and professional growth opportunities to continually enhance their skillsets.
  • Partners with Human Resources to manage the conflict resolution process for employee relations issues and successfully address workplace performance issues including proper documentation, and performance management including one on one coaching, disciplinary action, and terminations. Responsible for conducting the performance review process.
  • Attract, hire, and retain a dynamic workforce to meet fast paced high volume production demands. Work with Human Resources and Production Manager in staffing activities such as interviewing, hiring, career pathing and training and development of hourly employees and staff.
  • Review, analyze, and be accountable for daily operations metrics, provide ideas and input to Production Manager for cost reduction activities
SAFETY
  • Champions safety compliance to create an accident-free workplace; ensures operations-based safety action items are addressed and resolved in an expeditious manner.
  • Manage production activities to ensure safe equipment and operating practices.
  • Active Member of SSP Safety Team
  • Maintain/expand 5S+Safety program to encourage employees to maintain standards of excellence in safety and housekeeping.
FOOD SAFETY
  • All employees are required to understand and follow all Quality Food Safety Management System (QFSMS) policies and procedures. In addition, employees are responsible for reporting problems with the QFSMS to a supervisor or manager.
  • Champions food safety compliance and GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices).
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum of High School diploma in related field required and 7-10 years of related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree or certificate from a four-year college or university preferred. Strong knowledge of injection molding processes a plus.

QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated ability to successfully lead a team. Has a strong passion for quality and safety. Uses abstract thinking to drive improvements, conveys a sense of urgency and has problem-solving abilities. Able to listen and respond to others using good judgment. Leadership skills to develop, mentor, motivate, empower, and hold others accountable. Comfortable leading a 24/7 operation and supporting the team at times, during non-traditional hours.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of all levels of employees and customers. A professional demeanor with the ability to lead by example is required with this position. The ability to counsel, motivate, and mentor individuals is an asset to this position. Degree or certificate from a four-year college or university preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Familiar with business financial concepts such as profit vs. margin.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to investigate and define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve a variety of problems in situations where only limited standardization exists. This position requires exceptional judgment skills. The ability to prioritize activities and handle multiple tasks is essential to this position.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Must have strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office suite and ERP systems and ability to work in automated payroll system.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires regular standing, walking, manipulating hands, wrist, and fingers to grasp tools and parts as well as reaching with hands and arms. They are required to carry up to 35 lbs. and lift this weight over shoulder height. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, this position works near moving mechanical parts. They are occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level on the Manufacturing floor is loud. Silgan Specialty Packaging is climate controlled.

The following personal protective equipment (PPE) is required to be always worn when performing in this role while on the manufacturing floor: safety glasses and hearing protection. Food Safety protective equipment is always required while on the manufacturing floor: including hair nets, gloves and, if applicable, beard nets.
