Position Summary

The Production Supervisor leads daily production operations to meet safety, people, quality, delivery, and cost objectives. This role translates management priorities into practical floor direction; schedules work assignments while managing performance, attendance, timekeeping, training, discipline, and other HR-related activities. The Production Supervisor ensures employees have the materials, documentation, equipment, and training needed to complete work safely, accurately, and on schedule; monitors shortages and efficiency issues; escalates risks to on-time delivery; and builds employee understanding and buy-in during operational change.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Promotes a safe production environment by addressing unsafe conditions or behaviors, managing incident and near-miss reporting, and ensuring employees follow required work practices.
  • Schedules the production floor, establishes daily priorities, assigns employees to work areas and jobs, and coordinates resources to meet production schedule.
  • Monitors production status, shop load, staffing, material availability, parts shortages, and changing priorities; escalates jobs at risk of being late due to shortages or other barriers.
  • Reviews work orders, drawings, bills of material, production documentation, quality requirements, and procedures to ensure work is completed accurately and consistently.
  • Provides direct supervision for a team of 20-45 regular and temporary labor employees and recommends staffing changes as needed to support department performance.
  • Performs supervisory and HR-related activities including timecard review and approval, interviews and hiring, attendance and performance follow-up, and coaching and discipline.
  • Identifies training and cross-training needs, maintains training records, and supports employee development through monthly KPI scorecard process.
  • Translates management priorities into clear floor-level direction; communicates the reason for operational changes and builds employee understanding, alignment, and buy-in.
  • Manages department, operator-level, and job-level efficiency metrics by ensuring time is recorded accurately and efficiency concerns are addressed appropriately.
  • Tracks scrap, rework, quality concerns, and production inefficiencies; uses root-cause analysis and continuous improvement / Lean methodology to reduce waste and improve results.
  • Partners with Planning, Warehouse, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and other support functions to resolve issues and improve processes.
  • Supports the development and consistent use of production procedures, standard work, documentation, and recordkeeping practices.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, organized, and efficient production environment by ensuring assigned 5S duties and preventative maintenance tasks are completed as required.
  • Ensures adherence to company policies, procedures, safety requirements, confidentiality expectations, and applicable regulatory or quality system requirements.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
  • Five years management/supervisory experience in a production environment is required. Experience in a high-mix, low-volume assembly facility preferred.
  • Experience working with ISO, Lean Manufacturing, Six-Sigma principles strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, drawings, bills of material, production documentation, quality requirements, and written procedures required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelors degree in operational or technical discipline preferred.
Language Skills
  • Must be able to speak, read and write fluent English.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and problem solving skills.
Computer Skills
  • Experience using computers, email, and internet required
  • Experience working with an ERP system required, Epicor preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite strongly preferred, especially Excel
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand and use hands to manipulate small components. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, occasionally above the shoulders or below the knees. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, and ability to see color.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

An employee in this position splits time working both on the manufacturing floor and in an office environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to paint fumes or airborne particles, and industrial chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, though the employee may occasionally be subject to higher noise levels.
