Job summary

NSG Group in Fort Thomas, KY is seeking a Production Supervisor to lead a multi-area team across raw material handling, furnace operations, forming and annealing, driving plant targets and continuous improvement in a safe environment. Responsibilities

• Lead team to meet plant targets and drive continuous improvement.
• Provide a safe and healthy working environment implementing improvement programs.
• Supervise and coordinate raw material handling, furnace operations, forming, and annealing with direction as needed.
• Achieve effective and efficient use of resources.
• Train crew members and identify training opportunities; feedback to area leaders on gaps.
• Monitor costs, quality, and service; identify areas to eliminate waste; track performance vs budget/objectives.
• Ensure and cascade effective communications within team and with Shift Manager on safety, quality, and productivity issues; coordinate SOP changes.
• Collaborate with Shift Manager and Cold End supervisor on shift planning, scheduling, maintenance, and status reporting; complete proper shift handoff.
• Maintain 5S and housekeeping responsibilities in the Hot End; monitor equipment and processes to protect assets.
• Provide support to Shift Manager and CE supervisor as needed.

Job description

Essential Functions:

• To actively lead the team to ensure that Plant targets & Objectives are met in all aspects of its business, while promoting & monitoring the process of continuous improvement.
• To provide, as practicably as possible, a safe & healthy working environment implementing improvement programs in order to eliminate any work-related injuries.
• Supervises & coordinates all department functions in raw material handling, furnace operations, forming, and annealing operations of float glass manufacture with direction from the Shift Manager as needed.
• To achieve effective & efficient use of resources.
• Help train and identify training opportunities for all crew members and provide feedback to area team leaders on operator training gaps.
• To monitor & evaluate costs, quality, and service, identifying areas for improvement to eliminate waste. This will normally be achieved through: - The use of problem-solving techniques - The evaluation of team results compared to budget & objectives - The ongoing monitoring of team performance
• To ensure, through a cascade method, that communications operate effectively both within the team and where there is impact elsewhere within the organization. Communicate with the Shift Manager regarding safety, quality, and productivity issues. Communicate with the area team leaders on any necessary changes to SOP’s.
• To work with the Shift Manager and Cold End supervisor both prior to the start of the shift, during the shift, and at the end of the shift to determine manning requirements, scheduling concerns, maintenance issues, process status, as documented on shift report and be aware of any special quality specifications as well as complete the shift report and complete a proper shift hand off.
• Ensure 5S and housekeeping responsibilities are fulfilled for each area in the Hot End.
• To monitor all equipment and processes to ensure protection of the assets.
• Provide support to the Shift Manager and CE supervisor as needed.
• Communicate maintenance issues to the 1st operator
• Work a rotating 12 hour shift.
• All other tasks assigned.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to work a 12-hour rotating schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Ability to adapt to changing schedules and hours as needed. The role involves prolonged periods of standing and walking, often exceeding 12 hours per day. Candidates must be able to climb stairs, crouch, kneel, and maintain balance in various working environments. The position includes oversite of large glass furnaces and requiring the ability to work in hot conditions for extended periods of time. The position also requires the ability to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift items of 50 pounds. A successful candidate must be physically capable of performing these tasks safely and consistently in a manufacturing setting. These requirements are not all inclusive.
