Responsibilities

  • Direct all manufacturing operations through hourly teams; oversee production planning and compliance with safety, quality, budget and customer requirements.
  • Maintain performance equipment and participate in preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Set goals and KPIs for the production department; assist with capital budgets and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain reporting to assess production performance (OEE, Direct Labor, material usage).
  • Manage hourly employees and participate in leadership and safety teams.
  • Provide leadership for employee relations via communication, coaching, and training.
  • Lead meetings to align employees with company goals.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, safety, quality, and on-time delivery at lowest cost.
  • Determine headcount needs and communicate capital investments with maintenance.
  • Pursue improvement projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Founded in 1984, Häns Kissle began as the regional commissary for a small, high-end grocery chain in New England, MA, crafting fresh, upscale prepared foods and deli salads. Today we have two manufacturing facilities in Massachusetts and North Carolina.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for directing all the manufacturing operations on the manufacturing site through a team of hourly employees. This position is responsible for production planning and the manufacturing of the finished products of the manufacturing plant while respecting all safety, quality, legal, technical, budget and customer requirements. The incumbent presents leadership skills as well as the technical capability to make real time business decisions. This position is ultimately responsible for 100+ employees and will act as the backfill for the Director of Operations during absences.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Manages all production operations in terms of efficiency, cost, complete and on-time delivery, safety, sanitation, employee relations, visual controls and performance assessment against a defined budget
  • Maintains performance equipment to set targets and participate in defining preventive maintenance requirements
  • Establishes production; assists with capital budgets, and sets goals and KPIs for the production department in line with the entity and company objectives
  • Develops and maintains all necessary reporting to assess the production performance including Overall Equipment Effectiveness, Direct Labor utilization and material usage and scrap
  • Manages hourly employees
  • Member of the local leadership management team and safety team
  • Provides leadership for employee relations through effective communications, coaching, training and development
  • Leads and conducts meetings to rally the employees behind common goals
  • Ensures compliance with Company standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, OSHA, safety, and complete on-time delivery at lowest possible cost
  • Determines production headcount needs
  • Identifies and communicates implementation of capital investments in conjunction with the maintenance manager
  • Proactively pursues any necessary improvement projects
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Follows all Good Manufacturing Practices as stated within the policy
  • Follows all Safety rules & procedures by working safely and ensuring safety of others
  • Follows all food safety procedures
  • Follows all environmental protocols as applicable
  • Follows all sanitation procedures and work instructions
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned
Qualifications And Competencies

Minimum degree and experience required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, engineering, or sciences required and/or equivalent years’ experience preferred
  • 5+ years experience in a key leadership role at a manufacturing facility preferably coupled with warehousing and distribution knowledge
  • Green Belt certification required; Black Belt certification preferred
  • Demonstrated Continuous Improvement (CI) experience required, including leading process improvement initiatives and driving operational excellence through Lean manufacturing methodologies
  • Proven ability to identify waste, improve efficiencies, and implement sustainable process improvements
Specific Competencies Required
  • Strong organizational, analytical and communications skills
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement tools and lean methods
  • Ability to be flexible to work any hours/shifts.
  • ERP experience required
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite required
  • Food processing experience preferable
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, motivate, and train people
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in both office and manufacturing environments. Hours of work will generally be during regular business hours and average at least 40 hours per week. There will be some variation in work hours due to special projects, deadlines, production schedules, volume demands, and other business needs. This position may be required to work second shift based on production schedules, operational requirements, and business volume. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs., as well as climb ladders, is required. Some travel will be required, both within the United States and internationally. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn in the plant as required.
