Job summary

SMS Mill Services, LLC. seeks an experienced Production Supervisor to lead a unionized workforce on 12-hour shifts at the Coatesville, PA site. You will drive production, enforce safety standards, and coordinate daily reporting and inspections.

Responsibilities

• Lead a unionized production team on each shift to maximize output and minimize costs.
• Maintain a safe work environment and ensure PPE compliance and safety policy adherence.
• Prepare daily reports and provide information to management; ensure inspections and checklists are completed.
• Meet KPIs to achieve or exceed efficiency and performance targets.
• Coordinate mill service activities such as scrap loading/unloading, rail services, and environmental tasks.

SMS Mill Services LLC (“SMS”) is a leader in the steel mill services industry. SMS provides a comprehensive range of services for steel mill customers. We partner with our customers to design custom, cost-effective solutions which focus on adding value and achieving goals for the operation and the environment. Our services include, but are not limited to, scrap yard management, finished or semi-finished product services, melt shop services, logistics/transportation support, and slag processing.

SMS is seeking an experienced and safety-driven Production Supervisor to join our team in Coatesville, PA. This frontline operations leadership role, located on the Cleveland-Cliffs steel mill property, is responsible for supervising the daily activities of unionized employees, optimizing workforce utilization, driving productivity, maintaining a safe work environment, and supporting cost-effective operations.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a safe workplace. Lead by example and adhere to safety requirements in a scrap and slag yard environment. Always wearing proper PPE and addressing any employee not adhering to PPE requirements.
• Lead a unionized production team and effectively manage each shift to maximize production and minimize costs.
• Prepare daily reports and provide information to management as needed, including ensuring all inspections and operation checklists required to be completed by hourly employees are prepared and submitted appropriately.
• Meet KPl's (Key Performance Indicators) to meet or exceed efficiency and performance standards.
• Control and coordination of mill service activities as delegated, including:

1. Scrap unloading and loading.
2. Scrap breaking, shearing and cutting (in conjunction with supervisor of the burning floor)
3. Rental work with personnel and equipment
4. Environmental services
5. Scrap inspection
6. Timely rail services to the Customer.
7. Rail car repair

Ensure correct completion of all job‑specific, employee‑related paperwork including toolbox talks, daily activity sheet, time sheets and designated work permits.

Ensure employee compliance with standard operating procedures for all production operations.

Work safely at all times and ensure employees adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and requirements while performing their job duties.

Implement and drive continuous improvement.

Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including Environmental, Safety and Health guidelines and best practices, including mitigating risks associated with contractors and vendor insurance and indemnification.

Function as part of the management team and align with core values to meet company policies and goals.

Establish and maintain good housekeeping practices to eliminate hazards to employees.

Qualifications/Requirements

• 5 years of management experience in a heavy industrial service sector
• Experience working in a unionized environment preferred
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Ability to work shifts

Physical Demands

Ability to walk more than 1000 yards; stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift and carry no more than 50 lbs.; climb stairs and/or ladders; stooping; crawling; reaching; handling; pushing; pulling; twisting; kneeling; squatting; seeing; speaking; hearing; problem solving, discretion and independent judgment; regular and dependable attendance.
