Job summary

Smurfit Westrock Company is seeking a Production Supervisor for the Paper Department in Battle Creek, MI. This salaried-exempt role reports to the Operations Assistant Superintendent and requires managing safety, reliability, cost, quality, and productivity with a focus on employee engagement.

The candidate will communicate across departments to sustain 24/7 operations, maintain SOPs, and lead a team in a fast-paced paper mill environment. A 12-hour shift, four days per week, is expected.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in manufacturing.
  • Paper mill experience preferred.
  • Engineering or Paper Science degree preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and manufacturing software.

Responsibilities

  • Manage safety, reliability, cost, quality, productivity, and employee engagement.
  • Communicate with other departments and shifts to ensure 24/7 operations.
  • Maintain current standard operating procedures and troubleshooting guides.

The Opportunity

The Production Supervisor for the Paper Department has primary responsibility for managing the safety, reliability, cost, quality, productivity, and employee engagement in a goal-oriented environment. They also have a secondary responsibility to effectively communicate with other departments and shifts to ensure effective 24/7 operations of the Battle Creek Mill. This position is a salaried-exempt role and will report to the Operations Assistant Superintendent.

  • Administers and model’s safety in designated area of responsibility; participants in and supports the safety programs for the Mill; reviews safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for employees. Ensures compliance with all applicable OSHA and Mill safety rules.
  • Ensures compliance with all environmental rules and policies.
  • Makes sound decisions and communicates clear instructions, driving excellence within the process.
  • Ensures systems and structures are fully understood and used by the team (includes maintaining current standard operating procedures and troubleshooting guides are correct)

What you need to succeed
  • 3+ years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment required
  • Paper Mill experience preferred
  • Engineering or Paper Science degree preferred
  • Process Engineering experience a plus
  • Computer working knowledge such as Microsoft Office Suite, PI Processbook, JD Edwards, etc.
  • Ability to work a 12 hour schedule, 4 days per week
