Job summary

Sellars-Absorbent-Materials is seeking a Lead Machine Operator to supervise a 12-hour shift on a 2-2-3 schedule and to operate and troubleshoot a long production line. You will guide a team and ensure safety and quality on every run.

Ideal candidates are mechanically inclined with strong leadership, able to lift up to 50 lbs and reach 84 inches. This role offers a hands-on leadership position in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Overall responsibility for managing production on the shift to meet quality and safety standards.
  • Provide direction and leadership for the shift production team.
  • Ensure safety and compliance with company safety rules and guidelines.
  • Maintain quality and workmanship standards for Sellars products.
  • Move to relieve bottlenecks and assist teammates to improve processes.
  • Promote safety, quality and teamwork on the line.
  • Cross-train to handle duties of all team positions.
  • Manage and document production processes using Sellars forms and tools.
  • Test products using approved quality procedures and equipment.
  • Follow team standards and guidelines to sustain production quality.
  • Handle changeovers and adjustments (rolls, creping, blades) with team support.
  • Record injuries and follow Workplace Injury Packet procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate personal safety and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Serve as Team Leader when required.
  • Troubleshoot production malfunctions and suggest improvements.
  • Hands-on involvement as a production operator.
  • Assist with equipment setup, adjustment and operation.
  • Assist with roll setup and changeover.
  • Perform quality testing and handle material movement.
  • Support maintenance as needed.
  • Mentor junior operators and train new staff.

Position: Shift Team Leader

Shift:

6:30 pm -7:00 am (12-hour shift; 2-2-3 schedule)

Pay: $35+


Are you a strong leader with experience in trouble shooting and adjusting machines? Are you mechanically inclined? Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment?


We are hiring for a Lead Machine Operator who enjoys working as a lead in a team atmosphere! The Lead Machine Operator is responsible for operating and troubleshooting a 75 yard long machine. The ideal candidate must be able to work 12 hours on a 2-2-3 schedule (2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on), you get every other weekend off, able to safely lift up to 50lbs and able to reach 84 inches high. The Lead must be very comfortable working in hot climate environment.


Requirements/Qualifications:


  • Overall responsibility for managing and controlling the DRC operation in order to effectively and efficiently produce quality product that meets customer quality requirements in a safe manner.

  • Responsible for providing direction and leadership for the shift production team in order to sustain a safe and efficient operation.

  • Demonstrate personal safety and help maintain safe work environment for themselves and fellow members of the production team. Responsible for following all company safety rules and guidelines.

  • Ensure quality standards and workmanship standards for Sellars products are met on a continuing basis.

  • Understand and fully comply with the Sellars’ concept of “move to the work.” This means ensuring all tasks required to operate the line are efficiently executed by moving to relieve bottle necks, helping your teammates, and looking for ways to improve a process.

  • Work with team to ensure that safety, quality and teamwork are being exercised in order to produce quality products for customers.

  • Ensures the team members are fully trained in order to carry out the needed functions that result in a production process meeting safety, quality, efficiency, waste and cost metrics.

  • Models Team Standards and Plant Principles & coaches others to do the same.

  • Promotes and supports the Manufacturing Principles and Values.

  • Cross-train to handle the duties of any of the team positions. Is able and expected to step-in when needed to perform any of the production responsibilities.

  • Manage, control and document the process using the appropriate Sellars forms and tools.

  • Able to test all products using accepted quality procedures and equipment in a consistent and reliable way.

  • Work according to team standards and guidelines and ensure quality standards are being achieved on an ongoing basis.

  • Change parent rolls and record on appropriate form (with assistance from other team members).

  • Change creping and print blades (with assistance from other team members).

  • Thread-up machine from Unwind to Reel (with assistance from other team members).

  • Ensure that company procedures are followed in the event that anyone on the team is injured on the job. Procedures for handling on-the-job injuries are outlined in Workplace Injury Packet.


How you contribute as a team member:


  • Demonstrate personal safety and help maintain a safe work environment for themselves and fellow members of the production team. Responsible for following all company safety rules and guidelines

  • Serve as the Team Leader when required

  • Troubleshoot malfunctions or production issues and offer improvement ideas

  • Continuously work as a hands-on, working operator

  • Assist with equipment set-up, adjustment and operation

  • Assist with roll set up/change over

  • Quality testing, shrink wrap, and use appropriate material handling equipment to stage warehouse product

  • Perform routine maintenance on production assets and/or assist Maintenance Technicians as needed

  • Exhibit a strong aptitude for training new employees

  • Mentor to junior operators
