Job summary

National Cement Company of California is seeking a Process Control Supervisor to oversee control room operations and a team of five technicians at the Lebec plant. You will monitor sensors, alarms, set points, and ensure smooth production with proactive maintenance.

The role requires 2-5 years in production coordination or engineering in cement, strong kiln operations knowledge, and the ability to plan, delegate, and document logs.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect plant equipment and ensure logs and reports are updated.
  • Enter and retrieve information via computer and update logs.
  • Ensure payroll updates for shift employees in ADP.

Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The employee performs a variety of tasks including supervising 5 employees including employees responsible for the operation of the plant, working closely with the control room supervisor and resolving any issues related to mobile equipment, elevators, blowers, mills etc., making decisions associated with the plant production, assisting with the planning and coordinating of plant activities, delegating tasks, inspecting plant equipment, organizing and directing plant tasks, and a variety of related tasks.

The employee utilizes a computer keyboard, mouse, and views a monitor to enter/retrieve information including updating log completion, information, reports, email correspondence, and other related tasks.

The employee utilizes a writing utensil to complete notes during meetings, maintaining logs, memos, notes, and other related tasks.

The employee utilizes a telephone handset or cell phone to make or retrieve telephone calls, as needed. This includes utilizing the handset and when making calls pressing 7 to 10 buttons to make a call.

Responsible for ensuring all shift employees payroll updated in ADP before end of each shift

Works with Safety and Environmental departments to uphold all local, state, and federal regulatory requirements for OSHA, Cal/OSHA, MSHA, and Water and Air boards.

The employee coordinates, conducts and as needed attends meetings.

The employee ascends/descends plant stairs or vertical fixed ladders to access equipment during an inspection or while supervising employees.

The employee operates a pick-up truck equipped with an automatic transmission to travel to and from plant sites. Includes ascending one step, maneuvering a steering wheel, pressing 2 foot pedals in conjunction with using a cushioned seat.

The employee as needed retrieves needed parts, tools, or equipment for the work crew, may include material sacks.

Process Control Supervisor Duties:

The employee performs a variety of tasks including overseeing and performing control room related tasks, supervising 5 employees, including employees responsible for the plant operation, monitoring and resolving plant related issues associated with plant equipment temperatures, equipment malfunctions, motion detector/sensor activations, making decisions associated with plant production, assisting with the planning and coordinating of control room activities, delegating tasks including assuring that plant equipment is inspected, monitoring control room sensors/alarms, organizing and directing control room tasks, and a variety of related tasks.

The employee utilizes various computer keyboards, pointing devices, and viewing 11 video and computer monitors. The employee enters/retrieving information including controlling plant equipment, clearing alarms, changing and adjusting set points, starting/stopping equipment and other related tasks.

The employee utilizes a writing utensil to complete notes, logging equipment related incidents, maintaining logs, memos, notes and other related tasks.

The employee utilizes a telephone handset or cell phone to make or retrieve telephone calls, as needed. This includes utilizing the handset and when making calls pressing 7 to 10 buttons to make a call.

The employee coordinates, conducts and as needed attends meetings.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or related field).
  • 2-5 years of experience in a production coordination or engineering role within the cement or construction materials industry.
  • Strong experience in Cement Kiln Operations, and in-depth knowledge of burning process.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of production management software and tools.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Understanding of safety and environmental regulations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to

finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee may at times be required to climb ladders of up to 180’ and/or stairs up to approximately 45 flights, walk on rocky, irregular surfaces that may be muddy and in reduced lighting conditions. Employee may be required to enter highly dusty areas for longer than 1 hour while utilizing full face PAPR apparatus. The employee is often required to sit for long periods of time. The employee may at times be required lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, and precipitation.
  • Exposure to moderate to high noise levels typical of industrial environments.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
