Job summary

Petoskey Plastics is seeking a Production Shift Supervisor to oversee safe and efficient manufacturing across extrusion, converting, printing, and recycling lines. You will plan work, assign tasks, and drive adherence to schedules and quality standards.

The role requires 5 years of supervisory manufacturing experience, strong leadership, and problem-solving abilities. You will coach teams, improve processes, and ensure safety and compliance across shifts.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Associate's Degree.
  • 5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Proven track record of meeting production targets and safety goals.

Responsibilities

  • Promote workplace safety and lead the Safety Program.
  • Lead safety discussions with associates and audit safety practices.
  • Attend management meetings as required and ensure production schedules are met.
  • Review and improve production schedules and staffing levels.
  • Provide on-the-job training and coaching to associates.
  • Maintain accurate records for safety, production, and HR.
  • Ensure compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) and QA processes.

Production Shift Supervisor

The Production Shift Supervisor oversees the safe and efficient manufacturing of quality products by effectively managing manpower, materials, and equipment. This role directs the activities of the extrusion, converting, printing, and recycling departments, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, production schedules, and quality standards. Responsibilities include planning work, assigning tasks, assisting in hiring, training new employees, and consistently enforcing company policies.

Responsibilities
  • Promote workplace safety and lead the team's Safety Program
  • Lead safety discussions with associates, and audit their safety practices during walk arounds
  • Be present for scheduled shifts and attend management team meetings, as necessary
  • Review, suggest improvements, and adhere to the issued production schedule
  • Evaluate staffing levels, maintain budgeted headcount for operational needs, and collaborate with HR to fill any gaps
  • Provide on the job training for associates in all areas of their job duties
  • Uphold housekeeping standards by inspecting each line and updating line charts with relevant data and comments
  • Assist in planning for job changes with line technicians and conduct daily audits of operator performance
  • Identify limiting factors of production and make recommendations for continual improvement
  • Prepare work orders for repairs, submit requisitions for replacement of equipment, and submit requests for preventive maintenance
  • Document department procedure and work instructions, updating as needed
  • Approve time and attendance records and assignments across multiple departments using timekeeping software
  • Accurately complete production reports and detail run time reports
  • Collaborate with HR to conduct coaching sessions for associates
  • Adhere to and consistently enforce company policies
  • Maintain accurate records for safety, production, scrap quality, and HR
  • Ensure compliance with the Quality Management System (QMS), including QA scrap and first piece approvals
  • Schedule regular communication meetings to promote team building and continuous improvement
  • Report all safety, human resources, quality, scrap and production issues to manager
  • Attend training seminars, as required
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or Associate's Degree
Experience
  • 5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing

  • PE Blown Film experience, preferred
  • Ability to individually coach and provide performance management
  • Proven track record of meeting quantitative metrics
  • Excellent trouble shooting and problem-solving skills
  • Continuous Improvement – create and implement projects
  • Strong and effective leadership with the ability to motivate a team
  • Dedication to Quality Management System
  • Safety, production, scrap and quality oriented
  • Excel skills with the ability to chart, graph, and track inventory
  • Proficient in blueprint reading and mechanical tasks
