Job description

We are seeking a decisive, self-reliant Swing Shift Production Supervisor to lead our evening manufacturing team (typically 8 to 12 machinists and operators). Because this shift runs with minimal corporate oversight, you must be fully capable of acting independently, troubleshooting operational hurdles on the fly, and ensuring production goals are met safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of hands‑on CNC machining experience and proven leadership skills to maintain high morale, quality standards, and continuous workflow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Shift Leadership & Accountability: Manage, motivate, and direct a crew of 8–12 CNC machinists and operators. Set daily goals, assign tasks, and manage shift handoffs to ensure a seamless transition from the day shift.
  • Independent Decision Making: Act as the primary point of contact during the swing shift. Resolve machine downtime, personnel issues, scheduling conflicts, or quality discrepancies independently without immediate escalation to upper management.
  • Technical Oversight & Troubleshooting: Leverage your CNC experience to assist operators with complex setups, tool changes, program edits (G-code/M-code), and first‑article inspections.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor production outputs to ensure compliance with blueprints, engineering drawings, and quality control metrics. Address deviations immediately to minimize scrap and rework.
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce all company safety protocols, hazardous material handling rules, and PPE requirements. Lead by example to maintain a clean, organized, and accident‑free shop floor (5S practices).
  • Reporting: Document shift performance, including production metrics, equipment maintenance needs, and any personnel issues, delivering clear reports to the Production Manager.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of hands‑on experience operating, setting up, or programming CNC machinery (mills, lathes, or multi‑axis machines), plus at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Autonomy: Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision. You are comfortable being the senior leader on‑site during evening hours.
  • Technical Skills: Deep understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges). Ability to interpret and edit CNC programs is highly desired.
  • Leadership Traits: Strong conflict‑resolution skills, excellent communication, and a calm demeanor under pressure.
  • Availability: Ability to work the designated swing shift hours 3:00 PM – 1:30 AM.
