Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Production Scheduler for Starship Mechanisms in Hawthorne, CA. You will assist in developing rate-based schedules for multiple missions, coordinate with production teams, and manage hardware allocation across shared resources. Strong ERP/MRP experience and problem-solving skills are required.

You will drive schedule accuracy, communicate needs to suppliers, and analyze capacity to mitigate risks while aligning with customer requirements and mission timelines.

Responsibilities

• Assist in production scheduling for a given production work center and project long-term rate needs for the department.
• Create a rate-based schedule for hardware and track constraints across builds for 6+ missions.
• Collaborate with production teams to set, track, and execute daily/weekly goals respecting constraints.
• Build relationships with internal suppliers and communicate estimated hardware needs and dates.
• Manage scheduling and prioritization of hardware across shared resources and negotiate priorities with other departments.
• Monitor MRP systems and use SQL queries to identify shortages for upcoming builds.
• Identify and implement opportunities for scheduling automation within Starship Booster Manufacturing.
• Conduct capacity analyses to reduce schedule risk and lead improvement initiatives.
• Lead root-cause analyses on build issues to remove blockers and improve delivery.

PRODUCTION SCHEDULER (STARSHIP MECHANISMS)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in production scheduling for a given production work center, including identifying need dates for all part shortages and projecting long-term high-level rate needs for the department. Create a rate-based schedule for your hardware, and define/track constraints across your build for the next 6+ missions.
• Use an established schedule to create and generate stakeholder buy-in on various scenarios to determine optimal hardware allocation between new/refurb hardware that take into account customer needs, current mission manifest, and customer quality requirements.
• Work with production teams to set, track, and execute daily and weekly goals for the work center that take into account personnel and equipment constraints but support overall rate targets.
• Build strong relationships with internal suppliers and establish high-accuracy means of communication for both estimated hardware needs and completion dates.
• Manage the scheduling and prioritization of your hardware at shared resources that are common to multiple departments at SpaceX. Actively negotiate with peers in other departments for correct overall priority, and seek creative solutions that drive the optimal business outcome.
• Monitor MRP systems and leverage SQL Queries to identify hardware shortages for upcoming builds and lead the charge to pull this hardware into your production area.
• Identify, develop, and implement opportunities for increased scheduling automation across the Starship Booster Manufacturing department with a focus on reducing the manual operations required to develop, track, and update overall schedules.
• Drive down near-term and future schedule risk by conducting work-center level capacity analysis, identifying model and communication gaps that cause schedule slips, and leading initiatives (reactive and proactive) that mitigate those risks.
• Lead efforts to uncover root-cause and develop permanent resolution on issues found during product builds as required to eliminate internal and external blockers to deliver product on time. Drive conversations around assembly-level and integration misalignment.
• Identify and support improvement opportunities for product yield, quality, safety, cost and team efficiency.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree and 1+ years of manufacturing scheduling, planning or operations; OR 3+ years of professional experience with manufacturing scheduling, planning or operations in lieu of a degree.
• Experience using ERP/MRP systems in a production environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Remarkable problem-solving skills with a bias for speed and accuracy.
• Self-motivated, quick learner, and ability to prioritize efforts to meet customer and company goals.
• Ability to develop and maintain strong internal and external supplier/customer relationships in a fast-moving and ever-changing environment.
• Technical knowledge and skills in coding and computer applications (e.g. MS Office Suite, VBA, Smartsheet, SQL, Confluence, JIRA, Power BI, etc.).
• Strong track record of implementing continuous improvement efforts, ideally using problem solving frameworks including lean principles, six sigma, or Kaizen concepts.
• Experience leading multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams working on strategic problems.
• Project management professional certification.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be available for all shifts, extended hours, and/or weekends as needed.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods - 8 hours minimum.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Level I: $85,000.00 - $105,000.00/per year
Level II: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
