Job summary

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, 1–3 years in production planning or scheduling, and working knowledge of SAP or ERP systems; strong Excel skills are essential, and familiarity with Lean practices is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the master production schedule based on equipment, labor, and material availability; release production orders to operations and peg finished goods to customer sales orders.
  • Manage Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system inputs, improve planning processes, and coordinate demand recognition for new products and plant-to-plant transfers.
  • Analyze plant capacity models and report capacity consumption across product lines to support production forecasting and resource planning.
  • Coordinate with production coordinators, team leaders, and plant procurement to align on short- and long‑term production plan execution.
  • Track and report scheduling metrics and production plan performance to management; support Available to Promise (ATP) management and delivery commitment processes.

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

The Production Planner I is responsible for planning, scheduling, and optimizing production activities to ensure the reliable delivery of products to our business partners. This role sits at the intersection of operations, supply chain, and materials management — and has direct impact on how efficiently our manufacturing runs day to day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the master production schedule based on equipment, labor, and material availability; release production orders to operations and peg finished goods to customer sales orders.
  • Manage Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system inputs, improve planning processes, and coordinate demand recognition for new products and plant-to-plant transfers.
  • Analyze plant capacity models and report capacity consumption across product lines to support production forecasting and resource planning.

Education/Experiences – Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in production planning, scheduling, or supply chain
  • Working knowledge of SAP or another MRP/ERP system
  • Understanding of core supply chain principles: planning, forecasting, capacity management, and purchasing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with strong Excel skills

Experiences - Desired

  • Experience in cables, fiber, or industrial manufacturing environments
  • Project management experience
  • Continuous improvement or Lean/Six Sigma background
  • Familiarity with inventory management practices
  • APICS certification (CPIM or CSCP) or equivalent supply chain credential

Key Competencies

  • Translates production data and MRP outputs into clear, actionable scheduling decisions
  • Collaborates across operations, procurement, and sales teams to align on production priorities
  • Identifies and resolves scheduling conflicts or capacity gaps with a structured, data-driven approach
  • Manages multiple planning priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

The range for this position is $63,000.00 - $86,625.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
