Job summary

Corning Incorporated, in Michigan, is seeking a Production Planner/Buyer to plan, procure, and coordinate materials for manufacturing operations. You will develop production schedules, manage inventory, and collaborate with operations, logistics, and supply chain teams to meet demand while optimizing cost and resource use.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, or a technical field, 3+ years of experience, and strong skills in ERP/MRP, procurement, and MS Excel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, or a technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in supply chain, procurement, production planning, materials management, or related manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of production planning, inventory management, procurement, and supply chain processes.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; effective communication across the organization.
  • Desired certifications CPSM, C.P.M., A.P.P., CPIM, CSCP are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain production schedules, work orders, and material plans to support customer demand and operational objectives.
  • Manage procurement activities for direct and indirect materials, services, spare parts, and consumables from requisition through delivery.
  • Monitor inventory levels, material availability, capacity, lead times, and forecasts to ensure uninterrupted production and optimal inventory performance.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, logistics, warehouse, and supply chain teams to align production plans and material requirements.
  • Manage supplier performance, resolve supply issues, and ensure continuity of supply while maintaining the best total cost position.
  • Utilize ERP, MES, and planning systems to manage schedules, purchase orders, inventory transactions, and production performance.
  • Analyze KPIs related to inventory, schedule adherence, on-time delivery, supplier performance, and production efficiency.
  • Support process improvement initiatives, new product introductions, engineering changes, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies, supply chain procedures, and internal controls.

Role Purpose

The Production Planner/Buyer is responsible for planning, procuring, and coordinating materials required to support manufacturing operations. This role develops production schedules, manages inventory and supplier relationships, ensures material availability, and collaborates across operations, logistics, and supply chain teams to meet production and customer demand while optimizing cost, inventory, and resource utilization.

Key Responsibilities

Work Hours
  • Standard Hours (Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm)
  • Supporting a 24/7 plant structure, so occasional support when needed.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, or a technical field
  • 3+ years of experience in supply chain, procurement, production planning, materials management, or a related manufacturing environment.
Required Skills
  • Strong knowledge of production planning, inventory management, procurement, and supply chain processes.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience working with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across all levels of the organization.
Desired Skills
  • Education, experience, training, or certification (CPSM, C.P.M., A.P.P., CPIM, CSCP) in a supply chain function
  • Knowledge and understanding of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.

The range for this position is $63,000.00 - $86,625.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
