Production Planners are responsible for managing the production schedule and driving improvements in planning and operational processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Build and update master melt schedules based on casting requirements and shop floor capacity – investment and sand.
- Verify raw material, scrap, and alloy availability prior scheduling – work with multiple departments to ensure heats are scheduled accordingly and timely.
- Align melting output with molding, pouring, engineering and customer service teams – cross department communication is key.
- Balance customer demand, inventory targets, production capacity, and material availability to maximize service and operational efficiency
- Review all PO’s for production control, ensuring qty and customer request date can be met. Work with molding department/wax room to ensure schedules are being met and rush jobs are communicated.
- Create all shop orders needed for production - scrap remakes, samples, or new production PO’s.
- Manager of Make to Stock Program, ensuring we have the necessary parts in Finished Goods or in process based on customers’ requirements in contract.
- Oversee and provide scheduling and planning for assigned business unit
- Work with production teams to develop recovery plans as necessary
- Create shop orders
- Responsible for determining material availability, capacity, and production priorities
- Responsible for maintaining proper inventory levels
- Analyze trends, develop reports, facilitate communication and provide feedback on production performance
- Launch demand into ERP system
- Master schedule front end processes
- All other duties as assigned
Education / Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in operations management, logistics, supply chain, or equivalent; or 2-4 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize the Microsoft Suite. Prior experience with an ERP database is helpful.
- Must have high level of interpersonal skills. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.
- Capability of effective planning and priority setting. Ability to manage several projects simultaneously with strong organizational skills.
- Identify complex problems and review related information to develop options and implement solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
