Position Overview
The Production Planner is responsible for developing, communicating, and monitoring daily work assignments across multiple warehouses. This role ensures the timely and accurate receiving, picking, and shipping of goods by analyzing workflow, managing schedules, and proactively addressing order and capacity challenges. The Production Planner collaborates closely with warehouse leadership, resolves escalated issues, and supports operational goals through critical thinking and process improvement.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
Work Assignment & Planning
- Develop, communicate, and monitor work assignments at multiple warehouse locations to meet operational goals.
- Manage product allocation for outbound orders to ensure on-time shipping while balancing inventory availability and workflow.
Scheduling & Coordination
- Maintain and update inbound and outbound schedules for multiple warehouses.
- Process and schedule all carrier appointments, ensuring resources are properly aligned with daily needs.
- Assign and implement trailer moves with the yard spotter for efficient loading and unloading.
Order Management & Problem Resolution
- Follow up on late orders, product availability, and carrier rescheduling to minimize delays.
- Evaluate demand and determine strategies to fill open orders in alignment with operational priorities.
- Investigate and resolve product shortages to maintain healthy fill rate ratios.
Communication & Customer Service
- Serve as a primary point of escalation for both internal and external customers, providing updates and solutions as needed.
- Communicate effectively with warehouse leadership, customer service teams, and logistics partners for successful planning and execution.
Continuous Improvement & Compliance
- Utilize warehouse management systems (WMS) and Microsoft Office Suite for data entry, planning, and reporting.
- Participate in all required training and support process improvements to enhance efficiency and service.
Perform other related job duties as assigned or required
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent – or equivalent relevant experience
- 2-4 years of related work experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical, detail-oriented, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to take initiative, think independently, and collaborate in a team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates Degree or higher is preferred.
- Previous experience in warehouse or logistics environments.
- Experience with multi-site planning or logistics scheduling.
- Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS), preferably Blue Yonder or Korber.
Physical Requirements
This is largely a sedentary role requiring the physical ability to:
- Sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk while working on a computer
- Use hands and fingers to operate a keyboard, mouse, and telephone
- Speak and hear clearly in person, virtually, and over the phone
- Occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, or lift up to 10 pounds
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and printers.
The work environment is typically quiet to moderate in noise level and is climate controlled
