Job description

TAMKO is seeking a Production Operator Trainee at our Columbus, KS facility to apply necessary resources to production process lines in order to safely and efficiently produce quality non-woven resonated and non-resonated products. This is a temporary position at our polyester mat manufacturing plant.

Essential Job Functions

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Other duties may also be assigned.

  • Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and related protocols.
  • Report all incidents/accidents, and personnel, maintenance, or material issues to supervisor.
  • Inspect and monitor quality using TQCS throughout the shift to verify good quality control.
  • Keep supervisor informed of any quality problems associated with the finished products.
  • Operate a forklift in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Cut and sample test doff, conduct quality control testing, and enter data into the TQCS quality system.
  • Inspect finished goods to ensure adherence to quality control standards.
  • Provide and support implementation of process improvement ideas.
  • Troubleshoot the material transfer system to help minimize downtime.
  • Operate the re-winder as needed and understand proper startup procedures to ensure safety and reduce waste.
  • Assist North Plant, Shipping, Maintenance, and Lab departments when needed.
  • Promote teamwork and collaboration with all personnel.

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and may occasionally lift or move heavier objects with assistance.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work around moving mechanical parts, at elevated heights, where dusts and fumes could be present in the air, with or in proximity to chemicals, in hot environments, around electrical equipment, and in a loud environment. The employee must have the ability to understand and mitigate these and other risks, including by following all prescribed safety rules, and must have the ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, if necessary.
  • Comply with all prescribed safety rules and proper use of personal protective equipment.
