Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION

Assist operators with loading, unloading, vacuum arc remelt furnaces, and welding stubs and wafers on metal electrodes. Produce titanium metal according to specifications at an acceptable production pace. Follow all safety and standard operating procedures. This is an entry-level role within the melt shop line of promotion.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Furnace assemblies, materials handling equipment, forklift, hand tools, plasma arc welding equipment, wire welding equipment, weld chamber, vacuum pumps, hydroblaster, work savers, cranes, hoists, welding units, welding jig, floor-controlled overhead crane, cleaning tools, hand truck, measuring tape, scales, copper crucible & bottoms, tumbler, etc.

MATERIALS

Initial charge sponge, metal electrodes, stubs, wafers, titanium wire, inert gas, acid, etc.

WORKING PROCEDURE
  1. Assist operators in material handling.
  2. Assist operators in disconnecting furnace accessories and loading.
  3. Assist in furnace maintenance.
  4. Clean and inspect welds, removing contaminants.
  5. Identify, clean, and inspect stubs for electrode fabrication per welding specifications.
  6. Fabricate electrodes by welding aligned electrodes and stubs using weld line and chamber controls.
  7. Maintain records and make necessary computer entries (Peak entries & sign-off).
  8. Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
  9. Transport stubs, electrodes, and ingots using handling equipment, cranes, and hoists.
  10. Break mis-welded electrodes and repair welds as needed.
  11. Clean, inspect, and paint crucibles; sign off crucibles as directed.
  12. Unload electrodes & ingots from crucibles; clean and inspect crucible bottoms.
  13. Perform minor maintenance and repairs; assist with major repairs and preventive maintenance.
  14. Operate equipment such as cranes to place electrodes on descaler and run automatic cycles.
  15. Fabricate electrodes by welding components; operate weld lines, chamber controls, and wire weld units.
  16. Transport materials and supplies as needed.
