Job summary

Clayton is hiring a Layup Operator in Morristown, TN to perform the Feeder, Panel Flip, Door Build and Sorter tasks. You will rotate through stations, verify sizes, inspect components for defects, and maintain the daily production pace and cleanliness of the work area.

We seek dependable team players who read and write at a basic level, can use a tape measure, and meet productivity standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Learn and perform duties of Feeder, Panel Flip, Door Build and Sorter.
• Rotate through roles by completing 15 stacks of 30 doors each.
• Verify door sizes and stile sizes from Traveler Ticket.
• Inspect parts for defects and maintain production pace. Clean work area daily.
• Maintain adherence to the Production Building Schedule.
• Follow waste/defect recording procedures and keep scrap logs.

Position Summary:

The Layup Operator performs the functions of Feeder, Panel Flip, Door Build, and Sorter.

Duties/Responsibilities:

All layup Team Members are required to learn the duties of Feeder, Panel Flip, Door Build, and Sorter. A Layup Team member will rotate to each job upon building 15 stacks containing 30 doors per stack.

• Review Traveler Ticket to verify correct door size and stile size

• Conduct visual inspection of door parts and ensure each part is free of defects (Stile, Rail, Lock Block, and Core)

• Ensure consistent feeding of parts through feeder in the following order: 1) Stile 2) Rail 3) Lock Block 4) and Core Maintain consistent pace of the Top Door Builder.

• Ensure adherence to the daily Production Building Schedule

• Ensure work area is cleaned at the end of each shift

Panel Flip

• Checks door skins for defects to ensure quality
• Maintains work pace of the Door Builders
• Ensure adherence with daily Production Building Schedule
• Ensure work area is cleaned at the end of each shift

Door Build

• Assembly of interior doors by assembling Door Skins, Stile, Rail, Lock Block, and Core.

• Ensure all parts are in correct positions of door

• Conduct visual check of all parts for defects

• Maintain a work pace of 30 assembled doors per 8:30 minutes

• Ensure work area is cleaned at the end of each shift

Sorter

• Review part numbers on the Traveler Ticket
• Inspect all parts for defects
• Remove any parts found with defects and record scrap on tracking document
• Place Stile, Rails, Lock Block & Core on parts cart in correct positions and quantities
• Ensure work area is cleaned at the end of each shift

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repetitively

• Ability to perform a job that include repetitive pushing, pulling, and lifting
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain pace of a Team
