Job summary

Georgia-Pacific in Gurdon, AR is hiring a Production Operator for the Gurdon Plywood facility. You will pull, lift, and assemble veneer cores, operate production equipment, and support safety and quality goals in a fast-paced wood products plant.

Flexible to work first, second, or third shift, with overtime and weekend availability. Starting orientation on day shift with transfer to permanent shift after training; competitive hourly pay with potential increases for skill and performance.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in manufacturing, military, industrial, farming, agriculture, landscaping, carpentry, mechanical, or construction environment.
  • Experience using a smartphone, computer, or tablet.

Responsibilities

  • Pull and lift plywood, panels, or scraps up to 25 pounds.
  • Assemble veneer cores by layering sheets per required patterns.
  • Assist in operation, maintenance, and cleanup of production equipment including forklift operation.
  • Adhere to all plant safety and environmental guidelines and wear safety equipment.
  • Read and comprehend written instructions to complete tasks.
  • Work cooperatively with supervisors and co-workers to meet safety, production, and quality goals.
  • Cross train on various machines to increase operational knowledge.

Job description

Georgia-Pacific is now hiring for a Production Operator for our Gurdon Plywood facility! We manufacture pine plywood panels and siding that are ideal for residential and light commercial construction like subflooring, wall and roof sheathing, and concrete formwork.

Plywood is a strong, versatile product made by gluing together thin layers (veneers) of wood with the grain of each layer running in opposite directions. This cross-graining makes it stable, durable, and resistant to warping.

  • $20.00 per hour
  • $1.50 shift differential for night shift
  • You will have the ability to increase your compensation based on skills and contribution to the overall performance of the plant.
Shift:
  • Only candidates who are flexible to be assigned to work any shift will be considered.
  • Candidates must be flexible and available to work first, second, or third shift as needed. This will include overtime, holidays, and weekends.
  • Gurdon Plywood operates on a points-based attendance program.
  • Orientation will be on day shift and you will start on your permanent shift after your orientation.

What You Will Do
  • Pull and lift plywood, panels, or scraps that could be up to 25 pounds.
  • Assemble veneer cores by layering sheets according to specified patterns and project requirements.
  • Assist in clean up, operation, and maintenance of production equipment; including but not limited to: machine operation, and forklift operation
  • Adhere to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies and procedures while proactively seeking out potential safety hazards, including wearing safety equipment
  • Read and comprehend written instructions as required to complete assigned tasks
  • Work cooperatively and productively with supervisors, co-workers, and other associates to complete tasks, meet safety, production, and quality goals
  • Cross train on various machines to increase operational knowledge
  • Ability to work any hours, to include a variety of shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Prior experience in manufacturing, military, industrial, farming, agriculture, landscaping, carpentry, mechanical, or construction environment
  • Experience using a smartphone, computer, or tablet
What Will Put You Ahead
  • At least two (2) years or more of consistent experience in a manufacturing, military, industrial, farming, agriculture, landscaping, carpentry, mechanical, or construction environment
  • Experience driving and operating a forklift or other mobile equipment (i.e. bobcats, cranes, etc.
  • Experience working in wood products (lumber, plywood, or timber industry)
  • One (1) year of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
Physical Requirements:
  • Walk on elevated catwalks over 15 feet high to perform daily duties
  • Work in a non-climate-controlled mill, with dust, noise and temperatures that can be higher in the summer and lower in the winter
  • Perform tasks such as lifting (50lbs), walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and/or pulling for up to 12 hours/day
