Job summary

Pures Food Specialties LLC is seeking a machine operator to run and monitor bakery equipment, ensuring safe, efficient production in a Chicago facility.

Responsibilities include setting up, adjusting, and troubleshooting lines, reading recipes, following FDA guidelines, and maintaining a clean, compliant work area on rotating shifts.

You will work with scales, mixers, and batch records, observe FIFO, label lots, and report safety or quality issues promptly to supervision.

Qualifications

  • Must follow Food Safety policies and GMPs.
  • Able to read and understand recipes and batch instructions.
  • Willing to work flexible shifts, including weekends/holidays.
  • Capable of troubleshooting process issues within recipe boundaries.
  • Must maintain clean, labeled ingredient bins and accurate lot numbers.
  • Must operate safely with equipment and follow all safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor bakery machinery to ensure continuous production.
  • Set up, adjust, and troubleshoot equipment as needed.
  • Read and follow recipes and batch records.
  • Maintain and clean work area, adhere to FIFO and lot labeling procedures.
  • Report food safety or quality issues to supervisor promptly.
  • Support shift team and other departments as required.

About this position

Description: A machine operator is a professional who works in manufacturing or industrial settings, operating and monitoring machinery to produce goods. They are responsible for setting up, adjusting, maintaining, and troubleshooting the equipment to ensure efficient and safe production and must have the ability to work in a safe manner, follow safety guidelines.

  • Understand and follow Food Safety policies.
  • Must be willing to work flexible schedules and work in other departments including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to read and understand recipes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot process related issues within the boundaries of the recipe
  • Ability to use digital scales and have a working knowledge of scale functions.
  • Ability to mix doughs according to recipe. Have a working knowledge of the mixer, using the time and batch recipe system
  • Follow FIFO (First in First Out), Mix lot number and documentation accuracy.
  • Clean & Refill ingredient bins and label the bins with the correct lot number.
  • Ability to work in a standing position for entire shift and climb steps and ladders.
  • Monitors and assists with equipment upstream/downstream to ensure continuous operation.
  • Ability to clean mixers, work areas properly during and after production runs or changeovers
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area
  • Observe all plant safety, GMP and allergen procedures and attend appropriate training sessions
  • Responsible for manufacturing, distributing and consistently maintaining safe and quality food by following good manufacturing practices, allergen controls, food defense, HACCP and SQF requirements
  • Responsible for immediately reporting all food safety and quality issues to your supervisor
  • Follow supervisor’s directives and be able to support the shift team as needed

Requirements:

  • This position works in a manufacturing facility and requires standing, bending, climbing or walking 80% of the time
  • Must frequently twist, bend, and stoop when performing work tasks.
  • Frequently carry or lift 50 pounds or more.
