Job summary

Meta in Menlo Park is seeking a Network Engineering Manager to lead a highly technical team focused on the Backbone and Edge Engineering programs. You will collaborate with experts across software, systems, IP, and optical networking to advance our Express Backbone infrastructure.

The role requires strong leadership, deep networking knowledge, and experience guiding complex project roadmaps while driving cross-functional partnerships and team development.

Qualifications

• Experience managing a networking-related software engineering team.
• Knowledge of networking and distributed systems.
• Experience in network management systems for large-scale networks.
• BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline or equivalent experience.
• Experience recruiting and managing technical teams, including performance management.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals and AI ethics practices (e.g., bias mitigation, risk assessment).
• Knowledge of network topology and capacity planning.
• Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration).
• Experience in software development and engineering for network control and management.
• 6+ years experience in program management or product management.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize workflows and drive measurable impact.
• 4+ years managing MPLS and RSVP-TE based networks.

• Help engineers develop their careers, assigning them to projects tailored to their skill levels, long-term skill development, and career goals
• Assess employee performance frequently, address under-performance, and recognize and promote excellent performance
• Work closely with dedicated recruiting staff to expand the team, including sourcing candidates, interviewing candidates, participating in conferences/events, and onboarding new employees
• Communicate cross-functionally and drive engineering efforts

Meta's global network, comprised of cutting-edge platforms, is looking for a Network Engineering Manager to join the Backbone and Edge Engineering team focused on our Software Defined Express Backbone Network. This team is responsible for designing, implementing and supporting one of the world’s largest and most cutting edge networks.
