Job description

Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Project Kuiper is seeking a Production Manager to join the Space Hardware and Environmental Test team. This role will report to the Value Stream Leader and work closely with them to supervise a technician team that manufactures and tests space hardware. The individual will have strong leadership skills and be required to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment where communication and organization will be critical. This position will also utilize a variety of analytical tools as well as aid in creating a variety of laboratory procedures which they will help to draft and maintain. This will require supervisory duties as well as working as an operator in the manufacturing facility.

Working Hours: Night Shift: Monday - Friday, 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM

Key job responsibilities
- Manage a team of supervisors and technicians focused on environmental testing of space hardware in production.
- Plan and coordinate daily tasks for technicians and activities of all operations with an ability to adapt to changing schedules and other dynamic priorities.
- Work cross-functionally with management, facilities, and supply chain to maintain operations
- Report out operational metrics including staffing and resource utilization
- Author, maintain, and train others to all relevant process documentation, including Assembly, Inspection, In-process testing and Environmental Testing.
- Review and approve rework to ensure accuracy and enforce traceability.
- Comply with all Company Policies including Health, Safety, and Environmental Regulations, Personal Protective Equipment Requirements, and Standard Operating Procedures.

A day in the life
- 60% - On the shop floor working directly with technicians to support and keep operations running smoothly (Assembly and Environmental Test Processes)
- 20% - Meeting settings, working with technicians on career advancement, interviewing new candidates, reporting out metrics, creating and developing plans for improving operational efficiency
- 20% - Administrative tasks updating status trackers, reports, dashboards, etc.

- 1+ years’ experience in Clean Room Manufacturing environment.
- 6+ years' management experience
- 6+ years' experience manufacturing in high traceability environment

- B.S. in Business/Engineering, or relevant field.
- Experience in environmental test working with TVAC, thermal chambers and vibration testing tables
- Experience with Six Sigma, Design for Manufacturability, and DMAIC.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills with ability to effectively communicate with multiple teams.
- Conflict management and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask, comfortable with changing work environments and priorities.
- Proven ability to monitor own work product, ensuring quality, accuracy, and thoroughness; able to self-motivate and work independently or as part of a larger team.
- Manual dexterity to handle tools, and other equipment, of varying sizes.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $131,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $178,100/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
