Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a Production Supervisor in the United States to lead the assigned production area, ensuring safety, quality and efficiency while supervising the production supervisors and coordinating staffing. You will drive Lean manufacturing initiatives, 5S and Six Sigma, and monitor KPIs to improve productivity and cost performance.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree or Associate degree with relevant manufacturing experience, proficiency in MS Office, and flexibility for a 2nd

What you will do
  • Ensure that the assigned production area is operated in the most profitable and efficient basis and with the correct level of quality.
  • Maintain the safety of the area, scheduling assignments, line balancing, evaluation and control of build, monitoring of fulfillment of customer production and quality requirements, control of scrap and rework, efficiency, application of overtime, and documentation of these activities.
  • Act as primary contact for in‑house departments for production related issues in assigned area.
  • Directly supervise the production supervisors.
  • Ensure that problems have been corrected.
  • Assist in maintaining OSHA compliance on the plant floor and provide safety training in a continuous basis.
  • Coordinate temporary staff requirements and work with leadership and CI/Mfg. Engineering to develop a roadmap for Continuous Improvement in the assigned area for processes and productivity.
  • Drive and sustain the Johnson Controls Manufacturing System throughout the plant with continuous training and development of hourly production personnel in the manufacturing principles and governing behaviours.
  • Lead Kaizen Events and perform lean training for the production personnel in the assigned area.
  • Drive formal problem‑solving methods on the production floor with production personnel to drive a culture of continuous improvement and quality, controlling scrap and rework, and providing quality product to the customer.
  • Understand financial reporting and drive improvements based on KPI goals.
  • Authorize and evaluate the overtime requirement for Production employees.
  • Assist in mediation of personnel problems and conduct disciplinary action when required.
  • Monitor customer production requirements and coordinate schedule adjustments when required.
  • Monitor and ensure documentation of employee attendance records.
How you will do it
  • Direct production supervisors in the plant and coordinate production work through familiarity with all manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain a continual awareness of safety, quality, efficiency, scrap and production schedules.
  • Motivate and direct the training of production supervisors; train and develop individuals, instill in them a sense of responsibility, and evaluate them on their progress.
  • Analyze and determine staffing requirements and study daily operating results.
  • Meet daily with subordinates and consult with supervisors on solutions to production problems, ensuring that problems have been corrected.
  • Maintain cooperation between departments.
  • Ensure safe work practices are followed by all manufacturing personnel and inform employees of deficiencies and violations, taking corrective action if necessary.
  • Assist in maintaining OSHA compliance on the plant floor and provide safety training on a continuous basis.
  • Ensure correct distribution of staff and assist with training for all new or transferred employees while coordinating temporary staff requirements.
  • Work with leadership and CI/Mfg. Engineering to develop a roadmap for Continuous Improvement in the assigned area for processes and productivity.
  • Drive the JCMS – Johnson Controls Manufacturing System – throughout the plant, implementing and sustaining this culture with continuous training and development of hourly production personnel in the manufacturing principles and governing behaviours.
  • Support and lead 5S activities throughout the manufacturing facility to continuously improve the 5S Score.
  • Lead Kaizen Events and perform lean training for the production personnel in the assigned area.
  • Drive formal problem‑solving methods in the production floor with production personnel to drive a culture of continuous improvement and quality, and control scrap and rework, and provide quality product to the customer.
  • Understand financial reporting and drive improvements based on KPI goals.
  • Authorize and evaluate the overtime requirement for Production employees.
  • Assist in mediation of personnel problems and conduct disciplinary action when required.
  • Monitor customer production requirements and coordinate schedule adjustments when required.

What we look for
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of six (6) years of experience as a Production Supervisor in manufacturing environment or Associate degree and a minimum of eight (8) years of experience as a Production Supervisor in a manufacturing environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency using MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to work 2nd Shift (2:00PM-10:00PM, Monday-Friday) as well as weekend overtime as needed to support production.
  • NOTE: Shift could change in the future based on business need.
  • Preferred: Experience applying Lean manufacturing, 5S and Six Sigma.

HIRING SALARY RANGE

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $89,000 - $134,000(Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
