Job summary

Cornerstone Building Brands in Kentucky is seeking an experienced Plant Supervisor to lead daily operations of the facility, manage staff, and coordinate production, maintenance, inventory and distribution to meet schedules.

You will drive process improvements, ensure safety and quality compliance, prepare production reports and collaborate across departments. A strong background in Lean principles and 5+ years of supervisory experience is required.

Qualifications

  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • MS Office software demonstrated capability.
  • 5 years of supervisory and production management experience.
  • Proven ability to meet objectives within time-sensitive deadlines with outstanding follow-through, time management and planning skills.
  • Ability to adjust manpower and departmental spending to demand.
  • Ability to forecast production requirements and organize workload into a schedule.
  • Solid knowledge of how manufacturing, customer service and physical distribution processes interrelate.
  • Proven Lean Manufacturing principles experience.
  • Demonstrate leadership in management, staff development and training with analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Onboarding and training of production team members.
  • Excellent communications with strong customer service orientation.
  • Must be able to travel up to 10% (as required).

Responsibilities

  • Plan and direct plant operations for facility. Direct and manage staff activities, ensuring workload planning, receiving, maintenance, inventory controls and distribution.
  • Proactively review practices for correct, quality workmanship and process flow, diagnose improvements and implement process improvements to increase productivity.
  • Ensures complete and timely product delivery. Prepares and distributes production schedules.
  • Ensure quality to standard. Establishes, maintains and facilitates product quality specifications.
  • Responsible for quality of all products and materials from designated areas of responsibility; meet production specs; implement QC programs with vendors.
  • Technical responsibilities with vendors and suppliers; may require interaction with R&D.
  • Prepare and distribute production reports; communicate results vs. standards.
  • Ensure a safe work environment; OSHA and ISO 9000 compliance; safety training and meetings.
  • Implement and maintain preventative maintenance programs; schedule downtime for maintenance and repairs.
  • Collaborate with departments to ensure processes run in control and deliver high-quality product on time.
  • Meet or exceed budgeted financial performance; prepare departmental budgets.
  • Develop group leaders and associates; establish standard work; foster continuous improvement culture.
  • Communicate with team leaders and shifts; may serve as Safety Team facilitator.

Job Description
  • Reports to the Plant Manager and works collaboratively as part of the Plant Leadership Team
  • Plan and direct plant operations for facility. Direct and manage staff activities, which generally includes ensuring correct workload planning, receiving, maintenance, inventory controls and distribution
  • Proactively review practices for correct, quality workmanship and process flow, along with timeliness. Diagnose any potential areas needing improvement and identify and implement process improvements to increase productivity
  • Ensures complete and timely product delivery. Prepares and distributes production schedules
  • Ensure quality to standard. Establishes, maintains and facilitates product quality specifications
  • Responsible for quality of all products and materials from designated areas of responsibility. Meeting all production specifications, implementation of QC programs and working with vendors and suppliers to meet our specifications on incoming raw materials
  • Technical responsibilities with vendors and suppliers. May also require technical interaction with Research and Development
  • Ensure communication of results vs. standards. Prepares and distributes production reports
  • Ensure a safe work environment. Promptly address safety issues and ensure OSHA standard and ISO 9000 compliance (if applicable). Administer safety training and meetings. Monitor associate activities to ensure adherence to policies
  • Implement and maintain preventative maintenance programs, ensuring effective equipment utilization and that safety measures are in place. Schedule downtime for equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Reviews data to seek process, people and machine improvements and develops plans to instill desired results
  • Collaborates with all departments including Customer Service, Scheduling Procurement, Quality Control, EHS, Finance, Maintenance, and Engineering to ensure processes are running in control and delivering a high-quality product on time to our customers
  • As applicable, management of hazardous waste programs
  • Meet or exceed budgeted financial performance standards. Prepare and administer departmental budgets
  • Maintains an organized work environment to ensure a safe, efficient operation
  • Responsible for determining the staffing levels for production
  • Responsible for the development of group leaders and associates
  • Responsible for the standard work of each member of the team
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining a continuous improvement culture
  • Communicate with team leaders, group leaders and associates on other shifts
  • May serve as a facilitator on a designated Safety Team
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Minimum Candidate Qualifications:

  • High School degree or equivalent
  • MS Office software demonstrated capability
  • 5 years of supervisory and production management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to meet objectives within time-sensitive deadlines with outstanding follow-through, time management and planning skills
  • Ability to adjust manpower and departmental spending to demand
  • Ability to forecast production requirements and organize workload into a schedule
  • Solid knowledge of how manufacturing, customer service and physical distribution processes and functions interrelate
  • Proven record of implementing and utilizing Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Demonstrate leadership in management, staff development and training with analytical and problem-solving skills

Preferred Candidate Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree
  • 8+ years of supervisory and production management experience
  • Managing 150+ direct and indirect reports
  • Lean Manufacturing or Material Management experience
  • Broad experience in Materials, Quality, Engineering or Logistics
  • Financial analysis and forecasting experience
  • Ability to effectively manage a multicultural workforce
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma and Quality Management Systems
  • Position requires minimal travel (less than 10%)
