Job description

We are seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead a hands‑on manufacturing and assembly operation in Marion, Ohio. This position is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of production employees while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, productivity, and employee development.

This is not a desk‑based production planning position. The Production Manager will spend significant time on the manufacturing floor, working directly with frontline leaders and technicians, troubleshooting issues, maintaining build quality, and helping the team meet production goals.

The ideal candidate brings a strong mechanical background along with experience leading teams in an industrial manufacturing or assembly environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead daily production and assembly activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to established quality standards.
  • Provide hands‑on leadership and technical guidance to production employees and frontline supervisors.
  • Coach, train, and develop technicians while reinforcing consistent manufacturing and assembly practices.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and production issues and help the team resolve problems in real time.
  • Review completed assemblies for workmanship, fit, alignment, sealing, torque, and overall quality.
  • Coordinate daily production priorities, staffing, materials, and workflow.
  • Partner closely with Engineering and Quality teams to address non‑conforming work, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Work with Supply Chain to identify and resolve material shortages that could impact production.
  • Monitor production and quality performance, including throughput, first-pass yield, and rework.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, workflow, quality, and overall efficiency.
  • Maintain a strong safety culture and support organized, clean manufacturing practices.
  • Support customer inspections, equipment testing, and final acceptance activities as needed.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical assembly, industrial manufacturing, equipment manufacturing, or a similar environment.
  • 3+ years of experience leading production teams, technicians, or skilled manufacturing employees.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand how equipment and assemblies are built.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, bills of materials, schematics, work instructions, and quality documentation.
  • Experience using common measuring and assembly tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspect completed work and maintain high standards for quality and workmanship.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing safety practices and PPE requirements.
  • Experience coaching and developing employees in a hands‑on production environment.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations.
Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:

  • HVAC or air handling equipment
  • Complex mechanical equipment
  • Mechanical skids
  • Industrial equipment manufacturing
  • Chilled water or hydronic systems
  • Sheet metal fabrication or assembly
  • Lean manufacturing, 5S, or standard work
  • Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
  • Customer inspections or equipment commissioning
What We're Looking For

We are looking for a production leader who is comfortable being visible and engaged on the manufacturing floor. The right person will enjoy developing people, solving mechanical problems, improving processes, and taking ownership of both production performance and finished-product quality.

Candidates whose experience has primarily been focused on production scheduling or administrative production control without significant hands‑on manufacturing leadership may not be the best fit.
