Job description

About AJ Glass

Founded in 2002, AJ Glass has been a trusted provider of commercial glass solutions in Metro Atlanta for over two decades. We believe in uncompromising attention to detail and a steadfast pursuit of excellence, which is reflected in every project we complete. Position Summary

The Production Manager leads AJ Glass' production planning, material readiness, shop coordination, and quality control. This management- and systems-oriented role connects Project Management, scheduling, field management, the Warehouse Manager, and the metal-fabrication and painted-glass departments so materials are ready when field teams need them. The position looks beyond the next day's work, translates project schedules and shop information into production priorities, manages performance and reporting, and develops backup coverage. It may provide limited field support during coverage gaps, but its primary focus is managing the production system rather than serving as a full-time fabricator or field manager.

Position Details

Full-time, in-person role-based at AJ Glass and reporting to the Director of Operations. Standard schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m., with job-site visits as needed.

What You’ll Do
  • Own and maintain a rolling production schedule for AJ Glass' metal-fabrication and painted-glass departments, looking beyond the next day's work to establish priorities and identify capacity, material, or information constraints before they affect field execution.
  • Coordinate with the Project Coordinator/Scheduler, Project Managers, Field Managers, and Warehouse Manager to translate installation requests into a material-readiness plan and confirm required materials and fabricated products are available when needed.
  • Lead day-to-day priorities and performance of the metal-fabrication and painted glass departments through their experienced production leads; this is a management- and systems-oriented role, not a full-time fabricator position.
  • Review and interpret project schedules, shop drawings, product data, scope information, and installation requirements far enough in advance to identify missing information, special fabrication needs, sequencing conflicts, and required lead time.
  • Establish and maintain practical quality-control checks for incoming production materials, fabricated components, painted glass, and staged items, coordinating with the Warehouse Manager and other functional owners as appropriate.
  • Provide clear daily and weekly reporting on production status, productivity, throughput, utilization and downtime, upcoming workload, shortages, quality issues, and decisions or support needed from leadership.
  • Coordinate production-related supplier pickups, deliveries, and job-site material movement while preserving clear ownership among Project Management, scheduling, warehouse, and field-management functions.
  • Ensure materials and components are pulled and staged for the next day's installations, delegating work across available production personnel; provide limited jobsite or field-manager support during coverage gaps when business needs require it.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain practical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), visual controls, and production routines that improve consistency, efficiency, communication, safety, and product quality.
  • Build technical depth and succession coverage within metal fabrication and painted glass departments by cross-training qualified employees, maintaining visibility into critical skills and backups, and ensuring essential knowledge is transferred.
  • Oversee cycle counts and stocking levels for production consumables, commonly fabricated components, and other production-controlled inventory; coordinate replenishment with the Warehouse Manager, Project Management, and purchasing as applicable.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership to assigned production and fabrication personnel, setting clear expectations and fostering accountability, collaboration, urgency, follow-through, high performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage production-related vendor performance in partnership with Project Management and purchasing, addressing delivery, quality, lead-time, and cost issues promptly.
  • Use Microsoft 365, Excel, scheduling, and project-management systems to organize production information, analyze trends, and support capacity, staffing, subcontracting, and scheduling decisions.
  • Coordinate approved internal facility and shop-improvement work without allowing those activities to displace customer-project production priorities.
What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in construction operations, production management, field or project management, manufacturing, or a closely related environment; commercial glazing or aluminum construction experience preferred.
  • Ability to translate project schedules, drawings, and scope into production priorities and material-readiness actions. Hands-on glazing or fabrication experience is helpful but not required when the candidate can learn AJ Glass' products and processes.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated sense of urgency, ownership, sound judgment, and follow-through.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365, especially Excel, and the ability to interpret operational data and communicate priorities through scheduling and project-management systems. Microsoft Project, Procore, Crew Console, or comparable experience preferred.
  • Track record of supervising and developing employees, transferring technical knowledge, and creating reliable backup coverage for critical production capabilities.
  • Ability to collaborate across Project Management, scheduling, field operations, warehouse/material handling, vendors, and leadership without allowing open items to stall between functions.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, climb ladders, and move throughout warehouse, fabrication, and active construction environments for extended periods, including in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, position, and work around glass, aluminum, hardware, and related materials using proper equipment and team-lift practices.
