Job summary

Eurofins Genomics Blue Heron in Louisville, KY is seeking a Production Manager to oversee day-to-day gene synthesis and plasmid operations. You will direct manufacturing activities, ensure safety compliance, and drive schedule adherence.

Lead a high-performing team, optimize processes, manage materials and vendor relationships, and partner with R&D, Quality, Engineering to scale production while maintaining quality and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant life science field.
• 6+ years of manufacturing or operations experience in biotechnology or life sciences.
• Minimum 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience leading technical production teams.
• Hands-on experience with molecular biology workflows and manufacturing operations.
• Experience with LIMS and production data tracking tools.

Responsibilities

• Oversees daily activities of the geneMaker-based production platform, including gene synthesis and plasmid production.
• Plans and organizes production schedules while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
• Recruits, mentors, and develops a high-performing manufacturing team.
• Drives continuous improvement and operational efficiency across processes.
• Serves as primary technical and operational troubleshooting lead for production.
• Manages materials, inventory, purchasing, and vendor relationships to control costs.

Job Description

Since 1999, Eurofins Genomics Blue Heron has been a pioneer in the gene synthesis industry and has delivered tens of millions of base pairs of perfectly accurate genes to thousands of customers worldwide using its proprietary GeneMaker® multi-technology platform. In mid-2019 Blue Heron was acquired by Eurofins Scientific and became a partner of the Eurofins Genomics US division.

Blue Heron is searching for production Manager to join our team. The production manager oversee the day-to-day execution of the gene synthesis and plasmid operations at the Blue Heron.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities

• Oversees, directs, coordinates and prioritizes the daily activities related Blue Heron GeneMaker® platform including Gene synthesis, plasmid DNA and IVTmRNA production.
• Plan and organize the production schedule while ensuring compliance with safety regulations
• Recruit, mentor, train, and develop a high-performing manufacturing team.
• Drive operational efficiency through continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization.
• Serve as the primary technical and operational troubleshooting leader for the production organization.
• Identify manufacturing bottlenecks, implement corrective actions, and improve workflow scalability.
• Manage production materials, inventory, purchasing, and vendor relationships while controlling costs and ensuring supply continuity.
• Support implementation and optimization of manufacturing equipment, automation systems, and production technologies.
• Develop and maintain process controls, equipment validation programs, KPIs, and manufacturing metrics.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 13485:2016 standards, internal quality systems, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Partner cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, Engineering, and Operations teams to support new product introduction and manufacturing scale-up initiatives.
• Foster a strong culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, or related scientific field.
• 6+ years of manufacturing or operations experience in biotechnology, molecular biology, or related life science industries.
• Minimum 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience managing technical production teams.
• Strong hands-on experience with molecular biology workflows and manufacturing operations.
• Experience working with LIMS systems and production data tracking tools.
• Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented manufacturing environment.
