Job description

Job Purpose/Scope

The Supervisor of Operations position is responsible for supervising shop employees in a manufacturing and assembly environment. This position plans and assigns work, coaches and develops employees, motivates them, counsels and disciplines them, implements policies and procedures, and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership and ensures effective employee relations; provides employee coaching and development; makes employment decisions; resolves employee issues.
  • Maintains effective workflow by monitoring steps of the process, observing process control points and equipment, monitoring personnel and resources, studying methods, implementing cost reductions, developing reporting procedures and systems, facilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control points, and initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.
  • Completes production plan by effectively scheduling and assigning personnel; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising plans; resolving problems; and reporting results of the processing flow on shift production summaries.
  • Drives continuous improvement in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Morale to achieve positive results in all areas.
  • Enforces organization standards and assists in the revision or formation of new policies.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on 5S, housekeeping, equipment preventive maintenance, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Manages departmental performance measures, including visual controls, and provides regular progress reports to manager.
  • Manages Non‑Conforming Material reports so material is dispositioned in a timely manner.
  • Performs accident investigations and leads corrective actions.
  • Reports on inventory levels.
  • Manages department priorities.
  • Tracks absenteeism and timekeeping.
Supervision Scope

This position supervises all employees of the department and is responsible for their performance and efficiency.

Educational Requirements

Specialized Working Conditions and Travel

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally is required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 65 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Working conditions can be dirty, extreme hot/cold temperatures, and loud noises. Travel % = 5% or less.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $85,000–$95,000. Relocation may be provided if the candidate meets qualifications. Benefits include health, welfare, and retirement; an annual bonus may also be available if eligible.
