Production Machine Operator Job Description

Days/Hours: Monday-Thursday 5:00am-3:00pm

Department: Production

Reports To: Production Supervisor/Director of Manufacturing

General Summary:

This position is responsible for ensuring that the machinery is running smoothly, meeting production goals and producing quality products. Machine Operators will have good mechanical and troubleshooting skills. Detail-oriented, able to follow instructions carefully and accurately. Additionally, the Machine Operator position is accountable for ensuring that production scheduled for completion is executed in a timely manner and within all quality and safety procedures.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Operates machinery of several types at varying stages of the production line, always performing actions quickly and safely within all applicable SOPs, cGMPs, etc.
  2. Report to work 15 minutes before the start of the shift to prepare machinery for startup.
  3. Meet and exceed the production requirements based on the capacity for each filling line.
  4. Adjust equipment as needed, troubleshooting, and resolving operating problems, involving maintenance when necessary.
  5. Setup and operate all functions and capabilities on a filler machine, with minimal supervision or direction.
  6. Monitor machinery for abnormal behavior.
  7. Ensure machinery efficiency and maximize run capacity and speed for optimal productivity.
  8. Assist Maintenance with machine setups and upcoming changeovers for production runs.
  9. Assist in training and developing incoming operators when requested or required to do so.
  10. Be flexible and comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  11. Knowledge of working with Tronic labeler machines or similar labeler machines.
  12. Investigate and report all incidents (accidents, poor performance, kit shortages, kitting errors, excessive scrap).
  13. Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.

Required Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Thorough understanding of applicable Quality Control processes and procedures.
  2. Mechanical and troubleshooting ability.
  3. Intimate operating knowledge of all available processing equipment such as fillers, labelers, transfers, coding, etc.
  4. Ability to motivate others to meet demands established by the schedule.
  5. In-depth understanding of established Team Manufacturing values and customer service policies.
  6. Basic understanding of computers and data recording.
  7. Good oral and written communication skills.
  8. Basic math skills.

Education and Experience:

  1. Proven work experience as a Machine Operator with 2 to 3 years of experience.
  2. High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  1. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and safely lift up to 50lbs.
  2. Must show proficiency in the operation of all necessary equipment within the department.
  3. Must be flexible and available to work Fridays when necessary; some overtime may be required.
