Job Description

Job Summary/Purpose: Responsible for planning, organizing, directing the production activities and employee training and development to cost effectively produce a high quality finished product.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Participate/support the RMP (Risk Management Process) and assist in the development of the system and operational standards and corrective actions.
  • Submit ideas and work with individuals on the line to implement new and better methods.
  • Coordinate the line/area to meet or exceed company standards, goals and objectives.
  • Manage employee meetings and training.
  • Ensure the safety of equipment and personnel through the enforcement of Heinz safety standards.
  • Adhere to process, product, sanitary, and food safety guidelines established by Heinz and government regulators.
  • Manage productivity, minimize waste of material, equipment and personnel in accordance with established standards.
  • Audit accuracy and completeness of all records.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of employee time and pay records.
  • Manage proper staffing and costs.
  • Lead and develop the production team.
  • Evaluate the job performance of employees and set goals.
  • Initiate action in emergencies and revise plans to account for changed circumstances.
  • Anticipate problems and make quick decisions under time pressure.
  • Make verbal and/or written recommendations to supervisor or manager concerning a problem or issue.
  • Check products to ensure satisfactory production and physical process is carried out correctly, noting defects.
  • Check work completion to a set standard and assign employees to training and/or train employees.
  • Have knowledge of setup, operations, adjustments to equipment or machinery.
  • Participate and complete written work instructions, e.g. SOWI, JSA, etc.
  • Complete and participate in cross‑training in other job responsibilities and departments.
  • Complete training and participate in problem‑solving methods.
  • Provide a safe and healthful work environment for all personnel.
  • Interpret company policies to workers and enforce policies and safety regulations.
  • Perform other assignments as directed by management.
  • Work flexible hours; days, afternoons, midnights, overtime and weekends as necessary.
  • As necessary, other duties and/or projects may be assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Prefer minimum of Associate Degree and 1 to 3 years’ experience directing a work group.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Proficient computer knowledge; Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Access and designed inventory systems.
  • Excellent planning, organizing, problem‑solving, math, communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent people skills and ability to deal with all levels of employee groups.
  • Knowledge of operations of specific equipment, tools, and the ability to operate a computer.
  • Enforce rules, laws, agreements, etc.
  • Excellent role model and strategic thought leader.
  • Ability to deliver outstanding results, demonstrate reliability, good work ethics, quality work performance, attention to detail and maintain a good working relationship with all departments.
  • Work independently with little supervision.
  • Multitask and work in a team‑oriented fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Physical/Mental Requirement
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Use hands/arms to reach, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Work in all areas of the facility including hot and cold areas, and be exposed to wet and humid conditions.
  • Lift or move up to 50 lbs or more.
  • Excellent vision, distant and peripheral, ability to identify and distinguish colors and adjust focus.
  • Noise level is usually high; ear protection required.
  • May work near moving mechanical parts, high and/or confining places.
