Job description

Supervises the activities of production personnel engaged in all facets of the manufacturing function. Is considered a working supervisor with little authority for personnel actions. Coordinates the day-to-day operations of a group of employees. “Leading and directing” is usually restricted to assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, directing efforts and providing technical guidance on more complex issues. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a Supervisor or manager. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty.

Key Accountabilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Train, guide and direct employees
  2. Ensure that new employees are safely and correctly assimilated into their position
  3. Communicate with management and interface with leads in other areas of the shop.
  4. Must have mastered the skills needed to fully function with little or no supervision
  5. Must set and maintain safety, quality, production and housekeeping standards as determined by Management
  6. Produce any reports, orders or other paper work as required by management
  7. Troubleshoots and corrects operational and quality issues
  8. Ensures the machine is in compliance with operational and safety guidelines
  9. Fills in for supervisor when needed
  10. Work in constant state of alertness
  11. Regular and predictable attendance
  12. Work cooperatively with co-workers

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, WORK AIDES:

  • Computer
  • Wide variety of hand tools and power tools
  • Measuring devices such as calipers, tape measures and micrometers

Hours worked:

Works 10 hour shifts. Some overtime may be required in order to meet production demands.

Qualifications:

High school or GED

Three years in the department in which they are to become a lead person
