Job summary

Rwdy-Inc seeks a Production Lead II to manage a shift team and achieve safe, efficient and reliable production at a Carlsbad site. You will make operational decisions with minimal supervision and drive continuous improvement in safety and performance.

The role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with experience in oil and gas operations, and the ability to mentor junior leaders. Daily schedule is 6:30 AM–3:00 PM, with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a closely related operations leadership position.
  • Strong operational knowledge of the oil and gas industry.
  • Proven experience leading, supervising, coaching, and developing an operations team.
  • Strong understanding of safety management and process-safety requirements.
  • Experience managing critical and abnormal operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and administrative oversight for operations personnel working on shift.
  • Act as management’s representative to the shift team during nights and weekends.
  • Ensure the shift team maintains the competency required to conduct assigned operations.
  • Coordinate with other Shift Team Leaders to communicate unit status, priorities, and objectives across shifts.
  • Direct the deployment of personnel and fieldwork activities within the assigned operational unit.
  • Mentor less-experienced Shift Team Leaders and step-up personnel.
  • Maintain a complete understanding of the unit’s operational status.
  • Ensure production targets for volume, yield, and quality are achieved and shift instructions are completed.
  • Ensure employees and contractors comply with applicable SSHE requirements.
  • Promote loss-free field and control-room operations through OIMS and related programs.
  • Conduct monthly SSHE and performance stewardship meetings with technicians.
  • Oversee procedural reviews, safety planning, safe-work permitting, and field verification of work execution.
  • Guide the shift team through troubleshooting and abnormal operations.
  • Serve as the primary decision-maker for urgent safety-critical operating decisions.
  • Maintain shift-team emergency-response readiness through drills.
  • Direct initial emergency-response activities with minimal management support.
  • Initiate investigations involving safety, operational, environmental, and product-quality incidents.
  • Provide initial case management for injuries and notify management.
  • Develop a high-performing shift team and steward results to unit management.
  • Lead the shift team through OIMS requirements and verifications.
  • Steward IMPACT reports and identify performance gaps.
  • Maintain high unit reliability and cost-effective operations.
  • Ensure compliance with Operator Care and Global Product Quality Management.
  • Network with other site Shift Team Leaders for best practices.

MAIN FUNCTIONS

The Production Lead manages a shift team of operations personnel for a designated unit at a site to achieve Business Team plans safely, efficiently, reliably, and in an environmentally sound manner. This position is responsible for making operational decisions for a process unit with minimal management support.

The Production Lead must demonstrate strong operational, communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, particularly during emergency response and abnormal operations.

Typical job titles may include Shift Team Leader, Process First Line Supervisor (FLS), Shift Leader, or Operations Supervisor.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide leadership and administrative oversight for operations personnel working on shift.

  • Conduct monthly SSHE and performance stewardship meetings with technicians.
  • Oversee procedural reviews, safety planning, safe-work permitting, and field verification of work execution.
  • Guide the shift team through troubleshooting, abnormal operations, non-routine operations, and process-safety decisions.
  • Serve as the primary decision-maker for urgent, safety-critical operating decisions necessary to protect personnel and equipment.
  • Maintain shift-team emergency-response readiness through planned and unannounced drills.
  • Direct initial emergency-response activities with minimal management support.
  • Initiate investigations involving safety, operational, environmental, and product-quality incidents.
  • Provide initial case management for injuries and notify the appropriate management personnel.
  • Develop a high-performing shift team, measure its performance, and steward results to unit management.
  • Lead the shift team through OIMS requirements and perform field verifications and cold-eyes reviews.
  • Steward IMPACT reports, assign follow-up responsibilities, identify performance gaps, and implement improvements.
  • Maintain high unit reliability, cost-effective operations, and product movement.
  • Ensure compliance with Operator Care, Operations Excellence, housekeeping, and Global Product Quality Management System requirements.
  • Network with other site Shift Team Leaders to establish best practices and operational consistency.
  • Understand the site’s labor strategy and manage labor relations within the assigned area.
  • Participate in planning and executing turnarounds, unit modifications, and project work as required.
  • Establish and steward contractor performance expectations and oversee contractor activities when assigned.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience in a closely related operations leadership position.
  • Strong operational knowledge of the oil and gas industry.
  • Previous onshore or offshore operating experience.
  • Proven experience leading, supervising, coaching, and developing an operations team.
  • Strong understanding of safety management and process-safety requirements.
  • Experience managing critical and abnormal operations.
  • Knowledge of field and control-room operations, including general and unit-specific console operations.
  • Knowledge of process planning, mechanical coordination, and turnaround planning.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate courage of conviction and make urgent operational decisions with minimal management support.
