Production Lead
Johnson Controls, a global leader in thermal management, mission‑critical building systems, energy efficiency, and decarbonization, seeks a Production Lead to oversee safety, quality, productivity, and customer service within an assigned area.
Principal Duties
- Champion a safety culture using JCI tools and best practices and participate in JCI programs and committees, empowering employees to take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others.
- Train new and existing employees on proper processes and equipment, including JSA’s, PPE usage, 5S, and all safety regulations in the facility.
- Drive improvements to metrics by monitoring departmental activities and ensuring safety, quality, on‑time delivery, customer service, production cost, and inventory management meet requirements.
- Monitor and analyze scrap rates, productivity, on‑time delivery, and standard hours; work with the Quality department to resolve customer complaints and supplier issues.
- Work with other departments to determine daily work assignments that meet customer requirements and adjust priorities to respond to customers’ needs in a timely manner.
- Assign daily job tasks to team members, define realistic daily objectives, and manage bottlenecks to improve workflow, reduce work‑in‑process, and manage capacity.
- Apply continuous improvement principles, conduct root‑cause analysis, and drive changes in processes with supporting data.
- Coach and build teamwork among peers, fostering high morale and a team‑synergy environment while communicating goals and providing positive reinforcement.
- Escalate personnel issues, engage Human Resources promptly, and maintain confidentiality.
- Remain flexible, working overtime or shifting between shifts for training or coverage as needed, and conduct meetings with a sense of urgency.
- Use computer software such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and ERP systems to locate production orders, manage inventory, and support production activities.
- Perform material handling, setup, and other departmental duties as directed by management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; some supervisory experience preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead change, build effective teams, and think creatively.
- Collaborative style with cross‑functional teamwork; maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to handle ambiguity, make decisions, and balance multiple priorities in a high‑paced environment.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to generate alternative solutions.
- Quickly learn the organization’s structure, policies, resources, and information sources.
- Train new employees and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Read, write, speak, and communicate in English.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Work in noisy, dusty industrial environments, exposed to non‑toxic fumes, chemicals, grease, and oils.
- Operate machinery with moving parts, cranes, trucks, and motor vehicles.
- Use ladders, scaffolding, and work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Lift, carry, push, pull, or manipulate loads up to 30lbs.; occasionally lift 50lbs.; frequently lift up to 40lbs.
- Work in a non‑climate‑controlled environment and perform repetitive motions involving fingers, hands, and wrists.
- Stand or walk for long periods over hard concrete surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, kneel, sit, climb, and stretch as required.
- Reach at high levels and communicate in English.
- Work more than 40 hours per week as required.
Compensation and Benefits
Hiring hourly rate: $23.00, subject to experience, education, and market data. This position includes a competitive benefits package.
