Job summary

Rohrer Corporation in Illinois is seeking an experienced Manufacturing/Industrial Engineer to lead layout planning, tool preparation, and production coordination for packaging operations.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least five years of layout and process optimization experience, with proficiency in CAD and MS Office. You will collaborate with die vendors, mold shops, and production teams to ensure efficient layouts and uninterrupted flow.

• 5 years’ experience in layout assembly preferred.
• Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and methodologies
• Proven experience in production layout design and process optimization, preferably in the packaging industry.
• Proficient in CAD software and other relevant design tools.
• Proficient in MS Office Suite.

• Review and optimize production layouts for efficiency.
• Coordinate with die vendor and mold shop to communicate programs.
• Produce full-scale table drawings based on packing information.
• Coordinate job scheduling with production team and ensure material availability.
• Assist with any issues in assembly or the die shop.
• Monitor and order materials (plastic, die boards, aluminum) as needed.
• Design and print secondary tool assists using a 3D printer.
• Schedule and operate 3D printer to support assembly.
• Design second-level die-cut parts and coordinate with external die shops.
• Design and machine aluminum assists for production.

Job description

• Order Review:
  Review new orders daily for quantity, material type, and gauge. Alert Customer Service if discrepancies or concerns arise.
• Layout Planning:
  Organize orders by similar quantities to create the most efficient production layouts, ensuring simplicity and ease during the production run.
• Tool Preparation:
  Finalize layout drawings and pull all necessary tools for next-day assembly. Identify tools that require additional work (e.g., still in use on another combo, waiting for duplication, or assistance).
• Vendor and Production Communication:
  Send approved layouts to the die vendor and communicate programs to the mold shop for production.
• Table Drawings Creation:
  Produce full-scale table drawings based on packing information for accurate production planning.
• Production Coordination:
  Collaborate with the production team to coordinate job scheduling. Review material needs to ensure all new jobs are properly supported.
• Issue Resolution:
  Provide assistance with any issues that arise in assembly or the die shop as necessary.
• Material Management:
  Monitor and order plastic, die boards, and aluminum plates as needed to ensure uninterrupted production flow.
• 3D Tool Assists Design:
  Design and print secondary tool assists using the 3D printer as required for production.
• 3D Printer Scheduling:
  Manage the scheduling and operation of the 3D printer to ensure assists are produced and available when needed for assembly.
• Secondary Die Cut Design:
  Design second-level die-cut parts and coordinate with external die shops to order necessary components.
• Machining Aluminum Assists:
  Design and machine any aluminum assists required for production processes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• 5 years’ experience in layout assembly preferred.
• Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and methodologies
• Proven experience in production layout design and process optimization, preferably in the packaging industry.
• Proficient in CAD software and other relevant design tools.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity. This position is also eligible for a bonus and company benefits, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, and paid holidays.
