Job summary

Hyperion Materials & Technologies Inc. in Elk Grove Village, IL, is seeking a Production Grinder who will set up and operate CNC surface grinding equipment to produce precision carbide pre-forms.

You will work with Operations, Engineering, and Quality to keep schedules, solve process issues, and maintain safety. Candidates should have at least five years in carbide grinding, familiarity with GD&T, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of complex carbide grinding.
• Worked with engineering for part production.
• Good understanding of drafting and GD&T.
• Good mechanical aptitude.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe working environment per OSHA standards throughout the plant and assist in implementing any required updated safety regulations.
• Be able to learn new equipment quickly based on a foundational understanding of CNC and grinding.
• Responsible for performing, set-up and identifying appropriate fixtures and required wheels to produce parts.
• In the event of critical absences this individual will be able to step into a production lead position and get a process running effectively, followed by a successful handoff to operator personnel.
• Coordinates with Plant/Operations Manager for up to date scheduling changes.
• Coordinates with Engineering for timely turn around regarding fixturing and any required support.
• Maintain and manage fixture and wheel inventories to ensure on-time deliveries.
• Collaborate with quality control when required.

The Production Grinder is responsible for setting up and operating CNC surface grinding equipment to produce precision carbide pre-forms of various shapes and sizes. This position requires knowledge of grinding processes, machine setup, fixtures, and grinding wheels. The role works closely with Operations, Engineering, and Quality to support production schedules, troubleshoot process issues, maintain quality standards, and ensure safe and efficient operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe working environment per OSHA standards throughout the plant and assist in implementing any required updated safety regulations.
• Be able to learn new equipment quickly based on a foundational understanding of CNC and grinding.
• Responsible for performing, set-up and identifying appropriate fixtures and required wheels to produce parts.

Education and/or Work Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of complex carbide grinding.
• Worked with engineering for part production.
• Minimum High School Education with some secondary education a plus

Technical Skills/Physical Requirements

• Good understanding of drafting and geometric dimensional tolerancing. (GD&T)
• Good mechanical aptitude.
• A team mentality approach for all activities, the foundation of Crafts culture.
• Manufacturing or process related background.
• Must have experience in grinding carbide.
• Ability to develop and meet project schedules.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

Pay band $20.00 to $25.00 per hour based on experience.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Able to work over time and to work either 1st or 2nd shift.
