Job summary

BlockReel in Austin, TX is seeking a mid-level Gaffer for a 1–2 day commercial shoot. You’ll translate the DP’s vision into practical lighting, lead the electric team, and ensure safe power distribution on set.

Job description

We need to light up a vibrant, energetic commercial for a local fitness brand, featuring dynamic movement and crisp, clean aesthetics. We're looking for a mid-level Gaffer to join our independent production team for a 1-2 day shoot in Austin, TX. You'll be instrumental in translating the DP's vision into practical lighting setups, managing the electric team, and ensuring safe and efficient power distribution on set. Key responsibilities include collaborating closely with the Director of Photography, overseeing grip and electric crew, managing lighting equipment, and executing creative lighting designs. Ideal candidates will have at least 3-5 years of experience Gaffing commercial or narrative projects, a strong understanding of various lighting techniques (natural, artificial, practicals), and familiarity with common lighting control systems. While we provide a comprehensive lighting package, a Gaffer with their own specialized gear or preferred tools is a plus, but not required. The shoot is currently penciled in for late October 2026, with prep starting a week prior. This is a day rate position, negotiable based on experience.
