Job summary

Johnson & Johnson is seeking a Production Engineering Co-op to join the Production Engineering team in Danvers, MA. This role supports design, development, improvement, and validation of manufacturing processes and tooling to meet production needs and quality goals.

Responsibilities include cross-functional collaboration, data-driven problem solving with Lean/Six Sigma, and documenting processes and procedures while aligning with GMP and ISO standards.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an engineering degree (Junior/Senior or graduate student)
• Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen and continuous improvement methods; Green Belt preferred
• Ability to communicate ideas clearly in writing and verbally
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work with limited supervision
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; SAP knowledge desired

Responsibilities

• Support global process improvement, production-floor support, and production-transfer activities through recurring meeting coordination and attendance.
• Work in cross-functional teams that span global operations.
• Use Lean and Six Sigma tools to analyze process trends and identify opportunities to improve performance and yield.
• Support commercial production of new products and product changes in coordination with Operations, Product Development, and Quality Assurance.
• Ensure compliance with GMP, GDP, FDA QSR, and ISO standards; assist with process documentation and SOPs.
• Participate in validation activities, including planning, protocols, and reports.
• Qualify and optimize processes and tooling via IQ/OQ/PQ, Gage R&R, process capability studies, and DOE.
• Assist with failure investigations and corrective actions; document concepts and designs.
• Stay current on medical, technical, and biomedical developments related to Abiomed products.
• Collaborate with product development to ensure manufacturability of new designs.

Role Requirements:

The Production Engineering Co-op will support the design, development, improvement, and validation of manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures. The role will contribute to daily production needs, defect reduction, productivity improvements, and product quality while working with global, cross-functional Operations, Product Development, and Quality Assurance teams.

• Support global process improvement, production-floor support, and production-transfer activities through recurring meeting coordination and attendance.
• Work in cross-functional teams that span global operations.
• Use Lean and Six Sigma tools to analyze process trends, communicate issues using a data-driven approach, and identify opportunities to improve process performance and yield.
• Support commercial production of new products, product changes, and enhancements in coordination with Operations, Product Development, and Quality Assurance.
• Support and enforce company goals, policies, and procedures, including Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Documentation Practices, FDA Quality System Regulation requirements, and applicable ISO standards.
• Assist with developing and maintaining process documentation, including assembly and test procedures, routers, travelers, bills of materials, process flows, and process FMEAs.
• Help execute process validations, including preparation of validation plans, protocols, and reports.
• Qualify and optimize processes and tooling through IQ/OQ/PQ, Gage R&R studies, process capability studies, and design of experiments.
• Participate in failure investigations and in the development and implementation of action plans addressing internal corrective actions and audit findings.
• Maintain accurate documentation of concepts, designs, and processes while staying current on medical, technical, and biomedical developments related to Abiomed products.
• Work with product development staff to ensure products under development are designed appropriately for manufacturing, testing, and inspection.

Qualifications:

• Junior, Senior, or graduate student pursuing an engineering degree.
• Prior work experience is desired; medical device experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and continuous improvement methods; Green Belt certification is preferred.
• Ability to communicate ideas and information clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to prioritize work and complete tasks in a timely manner with limited direct supervision.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; working knowledge of SAP is desired.
