Job summary

Coherent Corp. seeks an Optical / Semiconductor Fabrication Technician at the Budd Lake, NJ facility to support R&D, production, and high-volume laser optic manufacturing.

Responsibilities include operating fabrication tools, reading CAD drawings, performing quality checks, and maintaining a clean, safe workspace.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with fabrication/machining training.
  • Associate degree in engineering technology is a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years of fabrication and machine shop experience in optics/semiconductor environments.
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and repair fabrication process tools.
  • Ability to read CAD drawings for parts/ingots/substrates.
  • Experience with MS Office and ERP/MRP systems.

  • Follow technical drawings, specifications, and production procedures.
  • Use precision measuring tools and testing equipment.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and contamination-controlled work area.
  • Follow safety, quality, and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineers and production staff to improve processes.

Job Summary: Currently seeking a Optical / Semiconductor Fabrication Technician to support the R&D, production, and high-volume manufacturing of laser optic products in our Budd Lake NJ facility. Responsibilities include crystal fabrication, support maintenance related fabrication and machining equipment. Must be willing to work 12-hour shifts on a 4/3 day rotating schedule.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain fabrication equipment including x-ray diffraction orientation grinding and inspection tooling
  • Follow technical drawings, specifications, and production procedures
  • Use precision measuring tools and testing equipment
  • Record production data, test results, and material usage
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and troubleshoot process issues
  • Handle chemicals and materials safely according to workplace procedures
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and contamination-controlled work area
  • Follow safety, quality-control, and environmental regulations
  • Collaborate with engineers and production staff to improve processes
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus additional training in fabrication/machining practices
  • An associate’s degree in field of engineering technology is a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant fabrication and machine shop experience in an optics or semiconductor manufacturing support environment
  • Demonstrated ability to operate, maintain and repair fabrication process tools (Multi Wire-Saws, Cylindrical Grinders, X-Ray Orientation Equipment, Cleaning Benches, etc.) in a semiconductor or optical materials environment
  • Familiarity with general machine tools (mill, lathe, etc.) in a model shop environment
  • Ability to read CAD drawings in the machining/fabrication of equipment parts, tools, semiconductor ingots and substrates
  • Must be comfortable carefully handling and loading/unloading high-value and heavy crystals
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain shop operations independently
  • Ability to recommend and implement improvements
  • Experience with networked PC based computer system (MS Office, spreadsheets, access, graphics, Email, MRP systems, and accounting software)
