84 Lumber Company is seeking a Production Associate Trainee – Lumber Stacker for the 2nd shift (3:30pm–12am). This entry-level role focuses on sorting, stacking, staging, and preparing lumber for roof and floor truss production in a fast-paced plant.

You will follow safety procedures, read tags and orders, and help maintain organized, efficient lumber flow while meeting daily production and quality standards.

Job description

The full-time Production Associate Trainee – Lumber Stacker is an entry-level position responsible for accurately and efficiently sorting, stacking, staging, and preparing lumber used in the manufacturing of roof and floor trusses. This position supports the production team by ensuring lumber is properly organized and readily available for the truss-building process. The Lumber Stacker works in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and is expected to follow all established safety, quality, and production procedures.

Shift: 2nd Shift 3:30pm to 12am ; Occasional overtime

Starting Pay: $18.50/hour + $1.00/hour shift differential = $19.00/hour

Pay Increase: Opportunity for additional pay increases based on performance and company guidelines.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Sort and stack lumber according to size, length, grade, and production requirements.
• Prepare, stage, and organize lumber for roof and floor truss production.
• Read production tags, labels, and work orders to identify required lumber.
• Verify lumber dimensions and quantities before materials are sent to production.
• Place lumber in designated locations to maintain an efficient production flow.
• Safely move, lift, carry, and handle lumber throughout the manufacturing area.
• Assist production team members with staging materials for truss assembly.
• Inspect lumber for damage, defects, or incorrect dimensions and report issues to the supervisor.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Follow production schedules and daily work assignments.
• Meet established production, productivity, and quality standards.
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
• Work cooperatively with truss builders, sawyers, production associates, and supervisors.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a lumber yard, truss manufacturing, construction, warehouse, or manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Experience handling lumber or building materials is a plus.
• Ability to read and understand basic measurements and use a tape measure.
• Ability to identify lumber by size and length.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work safely and cooperatively as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to repeatedly lift, carry, and move lumber and building materials weighing approximately 50–80 pounds.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, carrying, and twisting.
• Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
• Ability to work around moving machinery, lumber, conveyors, forklifts, and other production equipment.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a truss manufacturing plant. The employee will work around lumber, saws, conveyors, presses, forklifts, and other manufacturing equipment. Proper PPE and compliance with all company safety procedures are required at all times.

Key Performance Expectations

The Lumber Stacker is expected to:

• Maintain accurate, organized, and properly labeled lumber stacks.
• Keep materials flowing efficiently to the truss production line.
• Minimize material‑handling errors and production delays.
• Follow all safety requirements and use required PPE.
• Maintain consistent productivity and quality.
• Communicate material shortages, defects, or other production concerns to the supervisor promptly.
• Demonstrate dependability, teamwork, and a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Inserting or positioning materials, clamping, splicing, fitting parts by hand and with power tools, and verifying dimensions of cut material by following supervisor's instructions, blueprint specifications, and the cut sheet layout.
• Using a hammer to place metal reinforcement plates over connecting joints.
• Quality control of assembled items, proposing process improvements when applicable to increase efficiency.
• Following prioritized production list assigned by Assembler Lead and using assigned press stations to place and press plates on appropriate lumber.
• Fulfilling daily machine and area cleanup procedures.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos; write simple correspondence; effectively present information to others one-on-one
• Ability to read and understand simple diagrams, blueprints, and a tape measure
• Ability to work 10-12 hours shifts and lift up to 80 pounds
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
