Job summary

Smurfit Westrock, a leading provider of sustainable packaging, is seeking a manufacturing operator to assist in setup and operation of corrugated equipment. The role requires reading tape measures, basic math, and the ability to lift 50 lbs. Wage starts at $20.83/hour with shift differential and daily overtime/weekend work.

Candidates must maintain a clean work environment and follow safety procedures. Day, evening, or night shifts are available.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist the Operator and Assistant Operator in setup and operation of corrugated equipment per customer specifications.
• Operate equipment as needed to maintain productivity, quality and safety.
• Maintain clean work environment and follow safety guidelines.
• Record measurements and follow process controls; use hand tools as required.
• Read factory orders/print cards to set machine parameters and adjust equipment.
• Perform quality checks including first-piece inspection and ink/colour checks.

The Opportunity

• Assist the Operator and Assistant Operator in the setup and operation of equipment used to run corrugated boxes according to customer specifications.
• Operate equipment when necessary to maintain productivity, quality, and safe machine performance.
• Ability to operate various manufacturing equipment, follow specific direction, operate power hand tools, and other duties as assigned.
• Maintain a clean work environment.
• Ability to read a tape measure and have basic math and computer skills.
• Ability to work safely and comply with all safety regulations.
• Ability to lift, push or pull 50lbs, navigate stairs, stand, walk, bend, and kneel throughout the entire shift.
• Required to work daily overtime and weekend work.

Starting Pay: $20.83/hour

Shift Diff: $0.50/hr - 2nd Shift, $0.52.hr - 3rd Shift

1st Shift :6a-2p, 2nd Shift :2-10p, 3rd :10p-6a

How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock

• Follow all safety and housekeeping procedures, including lockout/tagout, PPE use, awareness of moving machinery and nip points, proper lifting techniques, and use of guards and safety devices.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area by performing daily cleanup, removing trash, following the Safety Manual cleaning schedule, and keeping scrap cleared.
• Use Factory Orders and Print Cards to set accurate machine parameters and ensure proper equipment operation.
• Perform essential machine setup tasks such as setting the stacker, installing dies/attachments/printing plates, setting rolls, collars, scores, blades, feeders, adjusting pressures and register, and operating glue and ink systems.
• Conduct key quality checks including first-piece dimensional and print inspections, in-run checks, ink color/viscosity checks, and confirming proper box fold and completeness.
• Shut down equipment and notify a supervisor immediately if major issues occur.
• Communicate effectively using interrupt buttons, verbal communication, and required hand signals.

Foundational Skills

• Ability to recognize proper versus improper machine operation
• Understanding of machine setup components (rolls, dies, feeders, scores, blades, rails, etc.)
