Carlsbad Unified Schools seeks a Teaching Assistant for a film production program. The role involves assisting teachers, providing instructional support, and performing clerical duties. This is an open recruitment to establish an eligibility list for the current vacancy and any vacancies which may occur within a period of one year, or until the eligibility list is depleted. The current vacancy is for a position working 6 hours per day, 10 months per year.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of a Principal, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of students enrolled in a television or film production program in a classroom or other learning environment; provide clerical support and assist in the preparation of instructional materials. The classification specification does not describe all duties performed by all incumbents within the class. This summary provides examples of typical tasks performed in this classification.
Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to students enrolled in a television or film production program in a classroom or other learning environment; tutor individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.
Monitor and oversee student practices and assignments in a television or film production program; assist assigned teacher with the implementation of lesson plans; assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects.
Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing, typing, duplicating, and filing instructional materials; maintain a variety of calendars, schedules, records, and databases of program information; process program forms and applications as required.
Provide classroom support to the teacher by setting up work areas and displays and distributing and collecting paper, supplies and materials; confer with teachers concerning lesson plans and materials to meet student needs; grade student tests and assignments as directed; report progress regarding student performance.
Assist students by answering questions and providing proper examples, friendly attitude and general guidance.
Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to student grades, attendance, classroom functions and assigned activities; record and input student attendance and other data and maintain automated records as required.
Communicate with students, District personnel and others to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns; facilitate connections with outside agencies, volunteers, and parents; answer telephones and provide program and classroom information as assigned.
Operate a variety of classroom and office equipment including a copier, fax machine, overhead projector, computer and assigned software.
Monitor inventory of equipment and levels of classroom supplies as directed; facilitate check-in and check-out of equipment; assist in ordering, receiving, and maintaining inventory of equipment and classroom supplies.
Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; maintain learning environment in a safe, orderly and clean manner.

Plan and organize work. Graduation from high school and one year of clerical experience working with students in an organized setting is required. Experience in a commercial or educational television or film production environment is desirable.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Some positions in this classification may require a valid California driver's license.
AND
Complete at least 48 semester units of study at an institution of higher education (college level).
OR
Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree.
OR
Pass an assessment that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics OR reading, writing, and mathematics readiness.
This is an open recruitment to establish an eligibility list for openings for a period of one year, or until depleted. Candidates who meet the minimum requirements, as demonstrated in their application materials, will be required to successfully complete a competitive testing process to measure the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the job. The testing process may consist of a written examination, a training and experience evaluation, a performance examination, and/or structured oral interviews. The candidates achieving the top three ranks of the appropriate eligibility list will be referred for a final selection interview, along with any transfer or reinstatement candidates. The Eligibility List resulting from this examination may be used to fill vacancies in related job classifications for which no Eligibility List exists (Ed Code 45272).
