Job summary

Distyl AI is seeking an experienced AI Engineer to design, deploy, and operate production AI systems within customer environments. You will translate complex operational needs into robust systems, partnering with SMEs and Distyl engineers to deliver reliable AI-powered solutions.

You will own end-to-end AI workflows, from prompts and agents to tools and data integration, ensuring performance, observability, and secure deployment in high-trust settings. This is a hands-on, hybrid NY-based role.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Fluent in French (written and spoken).
• Ownership mentality for AI systems and production outcomes.
• Experience building AI systems powered by LLMs or AI models.
• Strong fundamentals: clean code, debugging, testing, performance.
• AI-native working style and curiosity about model capabilities.
• Comfort working with customer teams and high-visibility projects.
• Willingness to travel (10–30%).

Responsibilities

• Build and operate AI systems in customer environments.
• Design AI workflows combining models, prompts, tools, retrieval, and evaluation.
• Develop clean Python services integrating AI into customer workflows and data platforms.
• Monitor live systems, identify failures, and iterate rapidly for reliability.
• Create evaluation frameworks, tests, and observability for AI performance.
• Collaborate with customers and SME to refine workflows and requirements.
• Use AI tooling to accelerate implementation and debugging.
• Collaborate with other AI engineers and stakeholders to balance speed and robustness.
