Job summary

MongoDB is seeking a strong Security Engineer with a background in application security and threat modeling to strengthen our core database products. You will collaborate across teams to implement pragmatic security solutions while enhancing customer trust and experience.

The role offers flexibility with an option to work from our Seattle or New York offices or remotely in North America, focusing on designing and executing robust security programs and responding to security incidents.

Qualifications

• 3 years of experience in application security, software security, or product security.
• Demonstrated experience in C++ programming, performing security assessments on low-level codebases, and remediating memory-related security flaws (buffer overflows, memory leaks).
• Scripting experience and ability to contribute code back to our environments.
• Comfortable leading threat modeling and acting as a security ambassador to other engineering teams.
• Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly to diverse audiences.
• Strong ownership and delivery mindset.
• Ability to facilitate discussions and provide collaborative, actionable feedback.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership, define strategy, and drive improvements for program areas like fuzzing, threat modeling, secrets management, or container security.
• Support engineering teams during security incident responses with risk analysis and proofs of concept.
• Advocate for and contribute to complex security projects from inception to completion.
• Drive architecture, patterns, and processes across Server Engineering to make security the default option.
• Partner with engineering teams to design and implement security controls across software and systems.
• Research and perform product security assessments including architecture review, threat modeling, code review, and pen testing to proactively build controls.
• Serve as a security SME for software security and architecture.
• Educate the engineering org on security through CTFs, lunch-and-learns, and mentoring.
