Job summary

Avetix Engineering seeks a senior Product Safety Engineer to join our San Diego team. You will perform hands-on safety evaluation and compliance testing on a range of electrical and electronic products, supporting certification activities and client-facing issue resolution.

The role demands independence, strong knowledge of IEC 62368-1/61010-1/60601-1, and the ability to own projects from start to finish with clear technical reporting and communication with customers.

Qualifications

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Product Safety Engineer to join a growing testing and compliance laboratory in San Diego.

This is a hands-on role for an experienced product safety professional who can step in and contribute from day one. You will work with customers across a range of products, supporting safety evaluation and compliance testing against key international standards.

We are looking for someone who is senior and technically confident, with the ability to operate independently and take ownership of product safety projects.

The Role

You will be responsible for hands-on product safety evaluation and compliance testing, working across a range of electrical and electronic products.

The core areas will include:

• IT / AV / ICT equipment
• Measurement, control and laboratory equipment
• Medical electrical equipment
• Product safety evaluation and testing
• Technical documentation and test reports
• Identifying and assessing product safety risks
• Reviewing designs and construction against applicable standards
• Working directly with customers to resolve compliance issues
• Supporting certification and regulatory requirements

You will primarily work with the following standards:

• IEC / UL 62368-1 – Audio/video, information and communication technology equipment
• IEC / UL 61010-1 – Measurement, control and laboratory equipment
• IEC / UL 60601-1 – Medical electrical equipment

Experience with related particular requirements within the 62368, 61010 and 60601 families would also be highly valuable.

About You

We are looking for someone with:

• Several years of hands-on experience in product safety testing, evaluation or certification
• Strong knowledge of electrical product safety principles
• Practical experience working with one or more of IEC 62368-1, IEC 61010-1 and IEC 60601-1
• Experience interpreting standards and applying their requirements to real products
• Experience with safety testing, evaluation and technical reporting
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
• The ability to work independently and manage projects from start to finish
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to work directly with customers

Experience within a TIC, testing laboratory, certification body or similar compliance environment would be highly advantageous.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked across multiple product categories rather than being limited to one specific type of equipment.
