Job summary

Applied Materials, Inc. is seeking a Product Quality and Reliability Engineer to lead cross‑functional reliability projects in Santa Clara.

You will drive 8D and failure analyses, evaluate materials and manufacturing techniques for durability, and coordinate with suppliers to qualify parts. A strong background in DFR and FMECA is essential to improve product reliability across new chip and display deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
• Master’s degree or relevant certifications enhance qualification.
• CQE or Six Sigma certification highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Lead 8D and FA projects to implement solutions.
• Assess materials, properties, and techniques for reliability.
• Perform FMECA with supplier and development teams.
• Oversee PQP at supplier sites and review change requests.
• Analyze failure data and generate management reports.

You will lead multiple quality engineering projects in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. You will also work with development engineers to ensure the proliferation of Design For Reliability (DFR) methods into our stream of new product developments. You will complete the reliability analysis for new products and plan the reliability validation tests.Major ResponsibilitiesDrives 8D and FA projects towards successful implementation of solutions.Evaluates, from a reliability standpoint, the materials, properties, and techniques used in design and manufacturing by AMAT and AMAT's suppliers.Performs FMECA and works with supplier and development engineers to enable CRAMS test plans. Leads Part Qualification Process (PQP) at supplier sites.Troubleshoot, analyze non-conformance and failure rate data using advanced business analytics to focus and prioritize the Q&R projects and prepare management reports.Reviews Engineering Change Requests for their impact on Quality and Reliability (Q&R).Key CompetenciesDemonstrates depth and breadth of expertise in mechanical/Electrical/systems engineering, mechanisms and components qualification, manufacturing and failure analysis, DFR, electro-mechanical components.Technically astute and detail-oriented . High-energy, hands-on, self-confident leader with a broad knowledge of product development, manufacturing quality and reliability methods.Strong interpersonal skills, personal presence, style, and demeanor, to effectively influence and lead others to find and implement solutions to complex quality and reliability problems.Excellent listening, written and verbal communications skills.Strong desire to learn and grow your career with the organization.Able to travel to supplier sites in the USA and Asia.Education and ExperienceBachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering preferredPreferred: Master's degree in Engineering, Statistics, Reliability, or a related field. Certified Quality or Reliability Engineer. Six Sigma certification (Black Belt, Green Belt).
