Position Summary/Objective:

The Product Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that products meet the highest quality standards and customers’ expectations. In the automotive industries, quality engineers play a crucial role in developing, implementing, and managing quality assurance programs, standards and processes.

This role is responsible for coordinating, implementing and maintaining customer requirements throughout the entire organization. Product Quality Engineer is responsible for being on a Product Development Team (PDT) team and ensuring all team members are abreast of customer specifications and requirements.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

Automotive Quality Engineer: The automotive quality engineer is responsible for ensuring that all automotive products meet the highest quality standards and customer expectation. This role involves developing, implementing and managing quality assurance programs, standards and processes within the automotive manufacturing environment.

PPAP Management:

  • Prepare customer PPAP and documentation for final product to OE customers.
  • Working within OE customers portals – developing a strong understanding of what is needed and specific customer systems and requirements.
  • Review and approve documents for PPAP submission, ensure all elements are complete and meet customer requirements.
  • Evaluate customer drawings and identify conformance and changes where needed
  • Pre-Production evaluation – monitor first few production launches and provide feedback.
  • Oversee all quality activities leading to successful development and PPAP approval of Muth products:
    • Preparation and on-time delivery of new product launch related customer Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) packages.
    • Product development related customer, internal and supplier quality corrective actions (8D’s) meet the required timing, quality, and format.
    • Initial capability studies are properly performed and documented for initial builds and product changes affecting special characteristics, and that customer and internal requirements are met (or a written customer deviation is obtained.
    • The product is in compliance to all applicable customer-specific quality systems and requirements.
    • Design and Process control plans.
    • Appropriate Measurements System Analysis (MSA) plan for the launch.
    • Identify appropriate statistical tools and techniques required for assessing process capability and verify all measuring devices included on the Control Plan.

Quality Planning and Procedures:

  • Develop and maintain quality plans, procedures, and documentation for automotive and software components.
  • Ensure quality plans and procedures are aligned with customer and industry requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement quality-related processes and procedures.
  • Working closely with OE engineers to understand and collaborate specifications and requirements.
  • Gather and maintain customer specifications and requirements.
  • Complete customer specific APQP documents related to quality
  • Develop gauging to ensure product meets customer requirements
  • Work with Supplier Quality to conduct feasibility analysis prior to tooling kick-off
  • Maintain program level risk assessment and advise management where gaps exist

Process validation and certification:

  • Validate and verify production processes to ensure they meet customer and industry requirements.
  • Conduct process audits and inspections to ensure compliance with quality plans and procedures.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce defects and variability.
  • Develop and establish product quality procedures, and tools to facilitate effective product from PPAP approval through manufacturing. Assure system works in conjunction with the overall process maps
  • Report on key Product Development Quality metrics.
  • Review ECRs for impact on customer product during development
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Follow IATF and any other regulatory requirements
Education, and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and/or minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Software background a real plus
  • Strong product development and engineering quality skills in a fast-paced environment
    • Blueprint reading and working knowledge of GD&T
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple programs and projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Proficient use of Word, Excel
  • Mechanical aptitude preferred and automotive experience a plus
